Arbellium
Arbellium is mortal magic distilled down into its purest form as a crystal the color of the maker's magic. The effort that it takes to make even small crystals makes it rare to find and expensive to purchase. However, even small amounts can work wonders for the user.
It is generally used in its crystalline form to imbue items with magic when the maker does not possess the magic to imbue it themselves.
An easier to get version that does not need to be as skillfully distilled down is Arbellium in powder form. This is often used to power cannons or other siege weapons.
Properties
Physical & Chemical Properties
Arbellium is warm to the touch, just above normal body temperatures. While not normally easily flammable, it can very quickly become unstable in crystal or powder form when it comes into direct contact with other magics.
History & Usage
History
The procedure to make Arbellium was passed down by Knowledge-Keepers in Traemid originally. It was a closely guarded secret until a Keeper betrayed their order and let the secret slip to other people. From there, news of how to make it spread--although few mortals ever become powerful enough to make it themselves.
Discovery
While the first person to create Arbellium in crystal form is unknown, the first (known) use of it is in 2303.
Distribution
Law & Regulation
As Arbellium can be dangerous if used or stored incorrectly, as well as dangerous even when being used correctly, most places on Saebetia have very strict rules and regulations around the production, sale, distribution, and use of it. Most of the time, if someone is found to be in possession of Arbellium when they are not permitted to be, jail or fines are the most common punishments.
Type
Metaphysical
Odor
Arbellium has a distinct and sickly-sweet smell.
Taste
While it is not recommended to ingest Arbellium, tasting it burns the mouth before leaving it numb.
Color
Arbellium crystals take on the color of their maker's magic. For example, a caster making Arbellium whose magic is a deep blue will product deep blue Arbellium crystals.
