Neverending Rise

"The last mountain to the North of the Falgate Mountain Range, the Neverending Rise lives up to its name, with a peak so high, it has never been successfully scaled. In 3502, The Kingdom of Krogia forbade all attempts to climb it, although that hasn't stopped some people from trying. I, myself, plan on attempting to scale it. I know many others have tried but they did not know what I know, that upon the peak is the door to the Gods! I must be sure to give the proper offerings and then I will be able to reach the summit and gaze upon the world as the true lord. Even if I die on the Rise, I will still ascend and become one with the mountain and one with the Gods!"
~ Passage from the journal of a man whose body was never found, journal recovered by Knowledge-Keeper Aywin Aekian on her final trip to discover the secrets of the Rise.

Geography

The Neverending Rise is the tallest mountain peak on Saebetia. On its Northeast face, the mountain drops sharply down to Wave Bay, just off the Northern Tides. The further up the mountain, the more steep the incline and the terrain gets more and more difficult to traverse. The last section of the mountain is almost entirely vertical.

Localized Phenomena

While no one has ever successfully scaled the peak, that hasn't stopped people from reporting the strange phenomena that can be witnessed from the base. Some people who have climbed a little ways up the mountain have noted strange lights coming from where they believe the peak is. Other people have reported strange sounds that carry down the mountain, often likened to a women screaming, a baby crying, or sometimes, a roar of pain that brings tears to the eyes of all who hear it.

Tourism

Close to the bottom of the mountain there is a small village, called Emelle, whose sole purpose is to protect the Rise from climbers. Where the village sits is the only feasible way to access the mountain so they guard it fiercely on orders from the King of Krogia. This village is the closest anyone can get to the mountain unless you pay one of the few guides licensed by the kingdom to take you up the first little bit. Due to the sounds sometimes heard on the mountain, men and women who have lost children will make the journey up to the mountain to pray for their children's souls and seek solace.
