The Creation Story
Summary
In the beginning there existed only two lovers on the rock that would eventually form the world. Oasis, Father of all Good and Omien, Mother of all Evil. These two beings are what we now know as the Elder Gods. Oasis had a natural love and affinity for creative endeavours and this lead him to push himself further and further in his abilities to create. His wife however cared only for him, her love almost obsessive as she lacked interest in any endeavours unrelated to him.
One night in the year 500 BSO, toiling and pushing himself, Oasis was able to shape the world around them, starting with blades of grass slowly growing through the cracks of the rocky earth they walked upon. He had created life. Becoming completely enwrapped in this new found ability, Oasis pushed himself further and further bringing forth trees, flowers, vines that crawled across the land, vast seas, winds that whistled through the forests and sprawling deserts. around this time, Omien gave birth to their child Worthe, who she loved with all her heart. As Oasis become more distant, engulfed in his new found purpose, Worthe filled the void in Omien's heart and gave her her own new sense of purpose.
in the following years Oasis continued his creative endeavours and began creating sentient life, starting with a single bird made from the golden feathers of his wings. He began to see his creations as his children forming the entire animal kingdom with ease, loving each and every one of his creations individually. Omien grew jealous of the world her husband was creating, bitter that she had to share her husband's affections with mere play-things. However she was able to keep this gathering storm under wraps, for her love for Worthe kept her distracted and her heart full of love.
All of this changed in the year 100 BSO, when Oasis created the first sentient life in his image, Elves. He created Dwarves, humans, halflings and the other original races of Winval and it's neighbouring continents. Fascinated by his new creations and eager to help their progression and development, Oasis worried he would overlook or forget about his past creations and that his world would fall into ruin without his guidance, so he came to his child Worthe and bestowed upon them dominion over the natural world which they took with great pride. Having now lost her husband and child to this pet project, Omien was fuelled by a stormy vengeance which could not be contained and so while Oasis rested, she would alter and twist his perfect creation out of sheer spite. His hyenas became her Gnolls, his gorillas became her Orcs, and in his peaceful, civilised nations she sowed the seeds of greed, envy and hatred.
in the year 50 BSO, Omien gave birth to a second child, Lazarow. By now all the love in her heart had completely died and so at the sight of this second child she refused to become invested or love this baby the same way she had with Worthe, thinking it would cause her nothing but hurt and betrayal and so she instead cast it into the darkness that exists outside of the world, abandoned and alone. This space is now known as The Void and is said to be where the souls of the dead pass to before crossing to Mercuria or Avernus.
Oasis became distraught as he watched his perfect creation be twisted and skewed as the years passed and despite his best efforts to maintain good, an unseen evil would always rise to his challenge, for Oasis was incapable of destruction or removing a rot in his world, only able to create the force to counter balance it. Angels to counter demons, chivalry to counter greed, love to counter envy, but it was all in vein.
In the year 0 BSO Oasis could not rest, for war had finally come to Winval, and all hopes of living harmoniously and at peace as they had done in his original creation seemed lost. Unable to rest with the weight of what he'd created, Oasis took flight one night in desperate search of the source of all evil in his once perfect world. In the ancient city of Olkvast, located at the centre of Winval, Oasis found his wife with black eyes conducting the world by nightfall. Oasis confronted her, driven mad by what she had done to his life's work. Omien's response was cold, having lost all affection for her husband many years prior.
They say their argument echoed across the whole world and could be heard by all as it grew and grew to the point the couple took up arms against one and other. Oasis and Omien fought to the nail, scratching and lashing at each other like beasts until finally Oasis stood over his wife lying in the earth and spread his six wings, the force of their beats tearing at her being and grinding her into the ground which cracked beneath them. With her last dying breath as she was forced into the world's core, Omien manifested a spear which she plunged into her husband's chest, the two dying within seconds of one and other.
As the two elder Gods died, their bodies exploded across the realm, splitting the very island they inhabited in half. This event is known as The Split of Olkvast as it was the centre of the blast. As the life force drained from their bodies, the two souls manifested as Avernus and Mercuria respectively. In Avernus Omien's power was split among the souls of the most evil and twisted creations in all of Winval living or dead. These souls became the Demon Lords. In Mercuria Oasis's power was split among the souls of the most virtuous and good willed beings of Winval living or dead. These souls became the Deities. It is said Worthe still walks the planes of Winval as a shapeless figure, ever changing with their true form inconceivable to the human mind, they keep the natural balance of nature in check shying away from the affairs of their parents.
