Drako Vukov

Biography

Drako Vukov, the current Thief Taker General of Starigrad, is renowned for his ability to track down and apprehend criminals of all kinds. City residents praise him for his quick and efficient retrieval of items stolen by robbers and thugs. The rapid return of these items has sparked rumors that Vukov may have informants embedded within the local criminal organizations.   However, a darker tale of Vukov's operations circulates among the lower echelons of Starigrad society. Whispers suggest that the same housebreakers, footpads, and pickpockets that Vukov is known for apprehending may, in fact, be serving him.   Born to humble beginnings, Vukov relocated to Starigrad as a young adult in hopes of finding new fortunes, but soon found himself imprisoned due to mounting debts. For him, prison ended up a veritable university of crime. There, he gained intimate insights into the city's underworld, and acquainted himself with the criminal fraternity.   But the guards liked Drako, as he was smart, charming, and ruthless, so he began running errands for them, participating in their mechanisms of corruption, and learning how to extort and intimidate. As time passed, Drako leveraged these experiences, earned the guards' trust, and became their intermediary in the prison's criminal ecosystem.   With his knowledge and earnings, he bought his release and joined the City Watch as a Thief Taker. Exploiting his connections, he masterminded a double-sided scheme: he'd catch a thief, return the stolen goods for a hefty fee, then use the money to pay off the thief's petty crime, splitting the profit.   His crime network flourished, and his supposed thief catching skills didn't escape the city council's attention. He was promoted to General of the City Watch, granting him more power. Criminals serving him would be released after the return fee was paid, corrupt jail guards were bribed for less, and those who didn't comply were left to face severe consequences. Guards who refused to serve him or who became too greedy were quickly framed for corruption, removed, and replaced. Drako Vukov, once a prisoner himself, now controlled a complex network of corruption within the city's watch.

Personality

Drako Vukov, in his advancing age, has become a figure of indomitable will and relentless ambition. He exudes an aura of untamed authority, hardened by the years of navigating the treacherous alleys of Starigrad's underbelly. His dark, discerning eyes seem to reflect the city's secrets and his own impenetrable schemes.   Corruption and ruthlessness form the core of Vukov's nature. A pragmatist to his very marrow, he discards any concept of morality when it hinders his goals. His rise to power, painted with cunning and intimidation, has birthed in him an insatiable greed and a ruthless willingness to protect his acquired wealth and influence. He treats his subordinates with an iron hand, demanding unwavering loyalty and prompt obedience, lest they suffer the consequences of his wrath.   Vukov is not without his vices. He's developed a certain fondness for life's decadent pleasures as a means to celebrate his ill-gotten gains. He indulges in the comforts of the finest alcohol, finding solace in the intoxicating haze that allows him to momentarily forget the complexities of his life, and regular patronage at local brothels testifies to his hedonistic tendencies.   Despite his unsavory traits, Vukov possesses a certain captivating charm, a dangerous allure that stems from his deep understanding of human nature. He is adept at playing the part of the charismatic leader when required, perfectly embodying the reassuring figure of authority the citizens of Starigrad look up to. Beneath this guise, however, lies a merciless puppeteer, stringing along the city's fate to the rhythm of his dark ambitions. In his presence, one is reminded of the adage, "Not all that glitters is gold." With Drako Vukov, it's usually a serpent's glint, captivating but lethal.
