Pervoshi First Foundry
In the heart of Pervoshi lies its most prominent and enduring industrial monument - the Pervoshi First Foundry (PFF). Established in the early days of the town's history, this foundry began as a modest forge, tasked with refining the rich ores extracted from the surrounding hills into iron and eventually, steel. As demand and technology evolved, so too did the foundry. It expanded its operations to include smithing and casting, transforming into a sprawling complex that at its zenith, employed nearly a third of the town’s populace.
The PFF was the first of its kind in Pervoshi and, while it was not the only foundry ever built there, it remained the largest and most technologically advanced, spearheading efforts to emulate the sophisticated industrial techniques traditionally mastered by Dwarves. These efforts had mixed outcomes, while some innovations were successfully integrated, enhancing the foundry’s productivity, others proved less effective. Over time, the foundry incorporated more mechanical components into its operations. This shift reduced the manpower needed but increased the demand for specialized knowledge. Despite the mechanization, the foundry's environment grew no less perilous, the relentless din of metalworking continued to impair workers' hearing, and the omnipresent fumes clouded their lungs.
However, the once-abundant ore veins in the nearby hills began to show signs of depletion. The slow dwindling of resources led to a gradual decline in output, casting long shadows over the foundry's future. This reduction in ore throughput forced smaller competitors to shutter their doors permanently, leaving PFF as the sole survivor of Pervoshi's industrial contraction. Although it continued to operate, parts of its vast complex were shut down, standing as hollow remnants of a more prosperous era.
Today, the PFF still stands as a bastion of industry in Pervoshi, albeit diminished. Its fires burn less fiercely, and the clashing of metal is less frequent, yet the wheels of progress grind on. The abandoned sectors of the foundry, officially closed off, now occasionally serve as the backdrop for illicit activities. Squatters seeking refuge from the law and conspirators needing secrecy find solace in the shadowy recesses of these derelict structures, their clandestine deeds masked by the residual clamor of the foundry’s remaining operations.
