Falkwald
The Duchy of Falkwald, also known as the Duchy of Rogal-Bulmerdia, is a member state of the Holy Gilder Empire.
History
Rogal-Bulmerdia was formed in a compromise between the last Duchess Miriam von Falk of Rogalwald and her rebellious subjects of Bulmerd after a short but devastating civil war. Following the The Great Stallion's exile (444 RD) from the Gloaming North by command of The Great Wolf, the long-held Stallionite Rogaler Monarchy were completely de-legitimised in the eyes of the people of Bulmerd, who had historically favoured The Great Eagle. By 445 RD, with the Bulmerdian peasants refusing all tithes to Rogal, its nobility raising armies, and even its sailors blockading the coasts, Miriam von Falk surrendered and bent a knee to the late Emperor Marcel I Chasteuila-Totekinder, adopting Eagle iconography, and declaring her new nation Falkwald (a name in the wald tradition first established by Sigswald, meaning "[a person's] sword"), representing the last Duchess of Rogalwald laying down her arms. In 455, after the unpopular rule of two von Falks, the new Emperor Leopold II Karlaginer ordered that the Schettenmeer family of ArmsHondorp.png Hondorp - a prominent dynasty of mixed Rogaler-Bulmerdian descent - be bestowed the crown.
In a twist of fate - after centuries of intermarrying and skulduggery - the renamed von Falkwalds have since come to inherit the throne of Bulmerd, and today rule every province in the nation as Princes and Margraves below the Duke.
Falkwald is a trade power and co-founder of the Rajbound League, with the Schettenmeers holding an immense stake in the trade networks with the oriental lands of Padmathara in the far north.
