Session 8 Recap - The Flying Rook

After defeating the dreaded Vocath, our heroes headed for the Garden system in search of the moon Valtorum. There they hoped to find what Luna called "The Heart of Valtorum" which was said to have the ability to cleanse the moon of the Modron currently using it as a base of operations. Unfortunately, on the way there they got a distress beacon from an unknown person who claimed to be trapped on an "Airship" nearby. Our heroes followed the becon and encountered a flying tower and a single docked galleon floating in wildspace. What they found inside was even more chilling.

The Nautaloid Behind the Curtain
Our heroes docked their ship and decided to scout the Space Galleon just to the opposite of them before heading into the tower. As Chk-Chk stepped on board the wooden deck and headed down into its cargo hold he found something he was not expecting. The circular room was illuminated by a violet hue and had cold metal floors. In the center of the room was a large water basin with peculiar tadpoles swimming inside. Instead of exploring further, Luna killed the tadpoles and the party quickly exited the ship and headed for the tower.

Nobodies Rook Like Mine
After entering the tower, our heroes met a mysterious creature they determined to be a Mindflayer. He called himself Zellix and appeared to have knowledge of the Arcane which is quite uncommon with his kind as they often preferred psionics over magic. He teleported away forcing our heroes to climb the tower and face some unexpected adversaries. As they ascended through the tower they encountered Astral Elves who attacked without reason. After cutting through the Elves, our heroes found a peculiar Gnome named VI "Six" who had originally sent the distress beacon that led them here. She told them that she was an editor for the Korranberg Chronicle chasing a lead for a string of disappearances in Zilargo, Khorvaire. These were strange words to our heroes, who determined that Six was not from Realmspace but from a place called Eberron.   As they climbed the tower, they found enemies around every corner babbling about something called the "Overmind". Unsure of what this could mean, they continued on eventually finding a strange statue depicting a creature in a large cloak that covered its face. At the bottom, where its feet should have been, were multiple tentacles emerging from the cloak.   Next, they found a sitting area with a large oil painting depicting four people posing together as a group. The first was an Astral Elf wearing their customary ornate armor that covers their face and wielding a staff infused with crystal. Next, a young female Hadozee who was equipped with goggles and two short swords. Standing next to her, a male red-skinned Tiefling wielding nothing but a snarky smile. Lastly, a human male wearing full plate and shield with a symbol depicting a gauntlet with a staring eye on it.
A Lost Connection
Just before reaching the precipice of the tower, our heroes found a room a strange circular room protected by powerful magic. An inscription written in Sylvan read "Only a true nobody may enter" which prompted each of our heroes to place their hand upon the runes. One by one as each person placed their hand nothing happened until it became T'Larn's turn. As she placed her hand upon the inscription the walls began to move to reveal a secret area that had not been touched in some time. Within the room there was a desk that had two items, the first was the same staff they had seen earlier in the oil painting. The second was a note written in Sylvan which said:
Sorry we had to abandon the Rook but there was no other choice. We hope everything falls into the hands of someone worthy. Good Luck. -The Nobodies.
Climbing to the top of the tower our heroes battled with the Mindflayer known as Zellix and his Astral Elf Thralls. They quickly cut him down clearing out the tower and saving VI. As they turned their attention to the moon known as Valtorum only the gods could know what horrors wait below...
