Gods
Gods
Gods - often referred to as Demi-Powers/Demipowers - of the setting are massively less powerful than Powers yet also have a much better grasp on Mankind and its existence and having it much easier to interact with it. Gods can be - to a degree - reasoned with, however even the nicest one is still alien in their thought processes and tend to operate on an utterly blue and orange morality. Understanding it (or at least realizing what works and what doesn't) is an absolute crucial thing to do before attempting even the most basic of interactions.
It is not unheard of for the Demipowers to attempt to play some more or less comprehensible games between each other, typically to the immediate detriment of any human involved (especially common among warlocks). They are, as a result, sometimes described as sapient natural disasters, just waiting to happen at the worst possible moment. A lot of them, however, can be co-existed with.
Unlike the Powers, the gods are weak enough to actually enter the Material World in their physical form. This means that they find it much easier to interact with - or caused trouble to - humans. They are also theoretically considered to be the strongest kind of entities that can be slayed by humans, if they are ready to risk the costs of that.
There are several grading methods for their power level throughout the world. The most common one (used by the US Government Department of Eschatology divides them between five normal Grades (from weakest 5 to the strongest 1), with a handful of particularly and horrifyingly powerful Special Grade demi-powers.
They are also separated into several groups.
Types of Gods
Embodiments
Embodiments are the most common subtype of the Demi-Powers. Which, in this particular case, means that no one knows how exactly were they born. They appear to embody their concepts to the largest degree out of them all, with for example an Embodiment of Rats exhibiting fondness for the concept of weak entities struggling in front of the greater ones (thus having something resembling benevolence towards human), while manifesting as a swarm of rats, etc.
They are considered to be the 'default' form of Demi-Powers, making up for a solid 90% of them.
Embodiment of Murder - A relatively known god, which appears to embody less murder as an act and more murder as a mystery. They manifest as a mostly human entity that appears to be interested in particularly mysterious murders, using their warlocks to gather information about those murders for its own knowledge. Occassionally - if offered interesting tidbits of knowledge - it might release its own findings about previous murders, and it doesn't actually kill people (unless attacked), meaning that it's mostly beneficial.
Ascendants
Ascendants are an extremely rare case of former humans achieving the status of a Demi-Power. This is typically achieved either by a magister performing another ascension ritual (although this requires very particular type of magister, meaning that most of them can't do it), or a terminal-stage warlock managing to get their ego to overtake that of their fused Demigod, or through a surprisingly successful dive into secrets of the Dawn War.
Ascendants tend to be among weaker Demi-Powers, stronger than an average magister but not by far. They also tend to have much more human mindset, which is actually a problem - they are often hunted for their knowledge, leading to most of them hiding behind false identities and not announcing their nature openly.
Ascendant of Greed - A long-term gossip circulating among the magical society of Japan implies an existence of an ascendant that decides to embody the 'concept' of dragons being able to shapeshift into humans (or vice versa), and their traditional desire for wealth. Said Ascendant has concealed its existence while using its magical knowledge to maintain a number of successful businesses (without stepping into the light), satisfying their desire for wealth.
Disasters
Disasters happen when the Demi-Power ends up embodying a concept that's way too dangerous to everyone involved, leading to their more 'administrative' classification as a Disaster. They tend to be Demigods, however you can expect them to be named Disasters in public and in documentation. Which, in turn, leads to many of them openly accepting that for a name.
Disaster of Despair - A Special-Grade demi-power that rests in Aokigahara Forest in Japan for the past thirty years, resulting in the whole area being cordoned by the local national agency for supernatural defense due to every initiate entering its domain being immediately forced to commit suicide. The only attempt to eliminate it led to establishment of a 100km zone where people proceeded to commit suicide, starting from people born at 1st of January, and proceeding to another day every twenty minutes. Little is known about its looks.
Outsiders
An extremely rare category, typically self-proclaimed by the Demi-Power in question. It isn't entirely clear what separates them from Demigods, leading to suspicion that they were Embodiments born but out of someone else's intervention. A result of Embodiments having their equivalent of sex? Something born out of the will of the Powers themselves? Extremely hard to say.
Outsider of Existence - A relative recent urban legend, claiming that there is a demi-power of human existence roaming the internet (4chan and more obscure parts of the reddit, primarily), that might - if you entertain it enough - share various secrets of the world with you. Or, perhaps, even meet you in real life to grant you gifts, such as healing or fixing the damage you receive from magic (yours or not). This urban legend remains just that, an urban legend.
Incarnations
Incarnations are considered to be a myth nowadays, being basically speaking the result of a Power downscaling their cognition to fit it in a newly created body, about the size of a Demi-Power. An obscenely powerful Demi-Power of their base concept. No confirmed sightings of those entities have happened during the past several decades, with unconfirmed ones dating back to the beginning of written history.
Incarnation of Wilderness - Every year, people - initiates or not - go missing in the wilderness regions of the North America, especially the national parks. At least some of those cases have a common reason.
