Divine Goals & Aspirations

Latimerrett is an oddity among the gods in that his respective animal(s) (pigeons) seem to be very low and his list of priorities. Latimerrett sees itself as a god born and fueled by knowledge, science, and progress, so everything else comes second to them in that regard. Apparently, during a meeting of the gods it saw a future where mortals reached the stars and he’s been obsessed with achieving that future eversince.     He prefers cities to most natural environments and due to its focus on logic and information he has a distaste for places such as the Land of Gods due to its lack of cities and how difficult it can be to gather information about it because of the various gods, magicsm and phenomena at work in it.     One of Latimerrett’s major goals is to understand the scientific explanation for magic itself. It views all magic as simply being science that is not yet understood. Lightning magic in particular seems to be of great interest to it lately, and he is even a teacher at Sacramento University of Constructed Magic Applications. It is rumored that he works there to gain access to more opportunities to experiment with lightning magic. He is one of the leading researchers when it comes to finding ways to incorporate magic into machines, which in turn tends to make magic more accessible. He is one of the gods who have been advocating for a new major god of lightning as it would greatly aid his research and Latimerrett seems to favor lightning magic when possible.     Latimerrett is a well known inventor, and with his divine abilities he can even create technology that would appear to be from the far future or leagues more advanced than the technology of modern Terra. He has a habit of upgrading and fixing any technology he sees even if the owner or recipient didn’t ask for it. He is much more technology inclined than most other gods and presumably knows how all technology that currently exists in Terra works and then some. Many gods find the pigeon goddess to be weird or misguided because it seems very detached from the natural world at first blush, especially by the standards of gods who are supposed to protect nature and keep it in balance. But some would argue that the pigeons flying through the city, the rats that scurry within the buildings, and the roaches crawling in walls are all things that can be seen as a natural part of the world in its own way. If anything they are a testament to nature’s ability to evolve, adapt, and even incorporate the artificial into its fold. In the words of LC themselves “You call what I do unnatural, but is it not natural to progress, and to evolve? To want to become more, to want to do more?” They also view the artificial as being but an extension or manifestation of nature.     Due to its unusually high aptitude for technology, it is one of several gods that have been put in charge of monitoring technology and putting a stop to the use and development of any technology that could destabilize the natural order or lead to the long term damaging of nature on a mass scale, such as nuclear bombs. If mortals are unsure if the technology they are developing will be allowed they may pray to the pigeon god or call upon it to have it look over their technology and work. If it is deemed too dangerous then Latimerrett will destroy it and all the research associated with it. If Latimerrett catches someone making unauthorized technology then it will do the same. Not all technology is conducive to progress and some forms of technology are so dangerous that they can actually set mortals and the world back.     Latimerrett is part of John de Luminarie's cult. Specifically, the Blue Ray, the part of the cult focused on technology and integrating magic with it. JL loves pushing the bounds of what is possible as it helps draw attention to himself and he loves how Latimerrett can push the bounds of technology and magic. Furthermore, these forms of technology may become popular or otherwise commonplace and maybe even a worldwide mainstay. The cults are known to fund each other and their numerous technologies. The Cult of Luminarie tends to focus more on technology that can be used in entertainment though. Lately Latimerrett has been interested in reinventing space travel and creating a new space age but so far it's been foiled by Umbra and some other gods. It is thought that part of the reason the pigeon god has allied with JL is as protection against Umbra.     Latimerrett is also an expert on history. They are fascinated by the Age of Man or, what it and its cult like to call it, the “Age of Machines” or the “Age of Man and Machine.” The part Latimerrett most interested in is the lack of magic in this era and how that created an emphasis on machines and technological progress. In modern Terra some pieces of technology from the age of man can only be simulated by using magic in the modern, so the pigeon god wishes to unlock the secrets of humanity and some of the ways they bypassed, and potentially even surpassed, the requirement of magic. Latimerrett seeks to usher in a new era of machines and then an era of stars. It sees technology as more stable and consistent than the potential miscasting or corruption magic can incur and wants to make technology more widely available. But at the same time, to Latimerrett science and magic are one and the same even if some people might view them as separate. Latimerrett views science and magic under the umbrella of “alchemy” and sees science as the parts of the world that are understood and magic as the parts that are not.     Latimerrett sees most technology and machines, such as computers, as alive even if most can be described as rudimentary or less complex than organic living things. At the end of the day living things are just signals being sent throughout the body to perform a specific task, and machines are much the same.     He and his cult are one of the factions in charge of the production of anti-magic devices.     The god has been attempting to bring humans back from extinction via cloning by gathering DNA from human remains. However, this project has faced setback after setback because of the fact that humans don’t tend to mix well with magic because of their extremely high magic resistance, and the cloning technology being used requires magic and spells to work. This is thought to be a contributing factor as to why Latimerrert is obsessed with technology.     His name appears to be a mishmash of the Wright Brothers as well as famous african american inventors Lewis Latimer and Garret Morgan as well as Bessie Coleman, the first African American to get a pilot’s license. A name it probably ended up with because of its drive for invention as well as its connection to airplanes and flying vehicles. The T in its middle initial is rumored to stand for “Tesla” like the famous inventor.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Described by some as appearing like he’s “from the next century,” Latimerrett appears to be more machine than organic. Often taking the form of a harpy or angel that seems to have had almost all their organic parts replaced with metal and machine that is animated with magic. To mortals he looks like he might as well have stepped out of a sci-fi story or from the distant future. However, a decent amount of the metal and machine looking parts on his body are actually organic and can be attributed to stuff like metal bones and growths.     Its lower face is usually obscured by a metallic face mask that resembles a cross between a gas mask and a beak, and they wear a pair of high tech goggles over their eyes. However, their actual eyes have been replaced by camera or lens-like structures. These lenses can usually be seen glowing from under the goggles. In its harpy form it has a pair of artificial arms and in their other mortal forms they have prosthetics in place of their arms. Its legs, likewise, are also replaced with prosthetics and it’s rib cage resembles a metal shell. Wires are can be seem on some parts of its body. Some of these wires are actual wires while others are more like strange tendons or nerves. Latimerrett can even control some of the wires like tendrils. The few parts of his body that seem to still be normal flesh appear to be heavily scarred with exception to his wings, which are dark gray in color with the occasional more colorful iridescent feathers on their underside.     Despite having wings, he also has a jetpack on his back that can be used to propel itself through the air as it flies at incredible speeds. He wears dentures with metal teeth and when he talks his voice carries with it the sound of static. His body has many tools within it that he can pull out at a moment's notice. There are often specialized drones accompanying him that are used to perform various tasks and act as an extension of his body. His hair is in the form of red and blue dreads resembling wires that are pulled back into a ponytail. His dreads seem to end in plugs.     LC’s divine form is strange and resembles a mishmash of a pigeon and a ton of metal machinery. It is unclear if he somehow found a way to integrate technology into his divine or if the form merely resembles / recreates machinery somehow. Either way, this form is noted as vaguely resembling a plane when in flight and the feathers on its body appear metallic and can cut like blades. This form is about the size of a small car.

Identifying Characteristics

His blood resembles oil.   Much of his body is made of metal and machines.

Special abilities

He is a master of wind mana and can even use wind magic to quite easily control the trajectory of planes, drones, and sailboats. He is capable of using wind to aid him in flight.     He is a master of earth mana and frequently uses it to manipulate cement / concrete as well as metal. This allows him to quickly erect complex buildings and machinery as well as alter existing ones, assuming the proper materials are nearby. He can only manipulate existing material and cannot create it from nothing.     He is very proficient when it comes to using lightning magic and it is said that during the reign of Eleteros he even managed to master the use of lightning mana. He seems very agitated with the lack of a major god of lightning and often advocates for a new one to be elected for the sake of the world’s progress. He can use electricity and magnetism to communicate with and manipulate technology he is touching.     He boasts the ability to wield magnetism, and can use this to manipulate electricity along with any magnetic substance. While he often manipulates certain metals he will sometimes manipulate a special ferrofluid he carries around. His magnetic abilities also allow it to always identify which direction is north and any nearby magnetic fields, which is useful for navigation.     While he isn’t the most powerful god he wields one of the widest arsenals of technology and weapons which can make him very adaptable, assuming he has time for preparations and research. He is quite famous for sometimes wielding anti-magical devices in combat as a form of protection or to disable the magic of opposing mortals, especially those wielding the boon(s) of a god. However, using many of these anti-magic tools often affects Latimerrett himself and can prevent him from casting spells or using certain magical devices. His anti-magic tech contains a lot of nuance that those made by mortals often lack such as being able to disable a certain type of magic (such as water, fire, etc.). L.C. can even make magic unusable within a certain range around it (at the cost of leaving it unable to use it’s own magic).     They can also turn most machines within their aura off and / or on with a mere thought (but it’s ability to do this is limited by a machine’s capabilities. If a machine does not have “an off switch” or cannot turn on then L.C.’s magic may not work). Most of the devices he uses have ward upon ward placed upon them for protection and are extremely durable.     He can download information directly from computers and other technology.     It is quite proficient with runes and sees it in the same vein as computer code.     He gives a trusted few some of his own feathers. Which allows those using them to access L.T.C’s boon, communicate directly with it, or summon the pigeon god to their location.

Apparel & Accessories

He is usually seen wearing a hooded cloak coated in pigeon feathers.

Specialized Equipment

The can often be seen holding a metal staff, the tip of which ends in a structure mimicking that of a skyscraper with two pigeon wings curving upward to accompany it. It can be used to fire bolts of lightning or send signals to machinery. It can also be used to help control machines or hack devices that Latimerrett might have trouble controlling with other means. The part of the staff resembling a skyscraper has windows that can glow as a light source.     L.C. has a plethora of anti-magic tools and skills. Countless wards, a variety of runic barriers (and other forms of magical protection) for almost any kind of magic, myriads of Magic Cancellation Devices, drones that can be controlled and manipulated with a thought, etc. This makes weaker foes who are too reliant on magic or technology struggle against Latimerrett but more powerful gods or gods well versed in a wide enough variety of magic can overwhelm the pigeon god. Additionally, some gods can rely on pure brute strength to overpower Latimerrett.     It wears one of John de Luminarie’s special rings. A symbol of their alliance.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Latimerrett was once a mortal who caught the previous pigeon god’s attention with the invention of wondrous new machines. Latimerrett was fascinated with technology from the age of man and worked with the god to rediscover and gather ancient technology from said time period. Eventually, the now fallen pigeon god was impressed enough to make Latimerrett their heir so that he could continue to work on advancing technology and bringing a new age.     Latimerrett isn't as old as some of the other gods and wasn’t around during the Age of Humanity. Despite this it has immense amounts of knowledge and memories unbefitting of the god’s age. This is because it has actually incorporated the memory / date from countless devices and machines into its own. This includes a machine created by the previous pigeon god that was filled with all kinds of data. Thus, Latimerrett has information that extends all the way to the age of man and the War of Black Ash despite having not been born during these times. Sometimes it mixes up the information it has downloaded with its own experiences and occasionally believes itself to have actually met and talked with humans.     Latimerrett is one of several gods who have been charged with the monitoring and overseeing of mortal technology and development. Stepping in when technology is seen as too dangerous or disruptive of the ecosystem, such as nuclear weapons, and confiscating or destroying it.     The pigeon god has been attempting to bring humans back from extinction by cloning from the DNA found in human remains but so far all attempts have been failures as the cloning technology relies on magic and humans have an extremely high magic resistance.     At one point Latimerrett saw a vision during a Meeting of the Gods and in said vision it saw something that was so wondrous it apparently broke down crying with joy. It was an age of technology and prosperity. An age of stars. Ever since the pigeon god’s fixation on technology and invention has only grown.     Latimerrett has taken on a mostly supportive role during the War of the Moon by making sure its cult supplies the forces of the gods with up to date weaponry and vehicles. They have also played a role in helping with the maintenance and upgrading of vehicles and devices. It also helps make sure supplies and planes get to their destination on time while using drones for recon. Some members of his cult have even taken to the battlefield wielding advanced weaponry. Latimerrett and his cult also use anti-magic technology to protect specific areas, such as hospitals, and neutral zones.

Gender Identity

It doesn’t really consider gender all that important and refers to itself as non-binary. However, its preferred pronouns tend to be whichever are the shortest because those are more efficient to use in conversation. So usually it goes by he / it / it’s / xe as they are slightly shorter than him / she / her / they / them / etc

Sexuality

The pigeon god is attracted to minds it finds beautiful. Inventive ones that strive to improve and don’t stagnate, Minds that inspire him. This can make the god seem fickle as while he does not care at all about physical appearance he will quickly fall out of love with someone if their mind becomes dull or inefficient.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

The god has a very apparent love of technology and progress as well as knowledge and understanding. Most notably they seek to unravel the secrets of the universe and magic itself. He also loves efficiency and tends to reward people who can make things more efficient. Xe tend to like cities more than natural landscapes, and it is for this reason that xe seldom travel into the Land of Gods. Xe like puzzles and brainteasers as it feels it helps keep his mind sharp.     Of course, he also tends to dislike anything that gets in the way of hids progress and it dislikes appeals to tradition or practices it views as outdated. Which is something that can put him at odds with some of the more traditional gods.

Vices & Personality flaws

Latimerrett views themselves as a god who strives for rationality and they can often come off as emotionless, cold and uncaring. They are known to have a habit of immediately trying to upgrade or fix almost any technology they see as imperfect or broken.

Personality Quirks

Forming long term goals, even if solely out of spite, is also a common tactic among immortals for dealing with immortality fatigue. It is thought that by giving themselves goals, often those that may take centuries or are outright impossible, to work towards can give a sense of purpose that can keep depression and suicidal thoughts at bay. Many immortals attest that spite is an incredible driving factor, such as giving themselves a goal of outliving certain individuals or even entire nations can be enough drive to find purpose, often finding other smaller and more achievable goals in the meantime.     Latimerrett seems to be suffering from some form of Immortality Fatigue that comes and goes every few centuries. Some suspect that the pigeon god’s obsession with technology and progress is a way of dealing with some of the mental effects of their Immortality Fatigue.

Hygiene

It enjoys to preen itself periodically and takes good care of its prosthetics and the metal parts of its body. It is known to spend more time fixing and performing maintenance on machines than it does taking care of its own hygiene though.

Social

Mannerisms

They tend to move robotically when relaxed but will move as quick and precise as a machine when the need arises.

Speech

They tend to speak very robotically and little emotion is conveyed by their speech.
