Like most mermidae, Mullen forgoes most clothing due to the drag it creates when swimming. Instead, they often wear simple ropes as jewelry and attachment points for bags and equipment when working, easily covered by their tentacles when moving at speed. They almost always wear a necklace made of antique gold coins and pearls around their neck.

Mullen works as a freelance diver for a variety of salvage companies, tours, and programs around Shanai. They are also a volunteer of the Red Pineapple Corps, often assisting with damaged boats and recovery efforts for sinking ships.

Mullen is quite shy and often uncomfortable with large groups, preferring to be in relative solitude outside of groups such as the Red Pineapple Corps or close friends. Often they can come across as cold or uncaring and generally will not reveal their face, instead remaining inside their tentacles with strangers.
Subconsciously, Mullen will change coloration depending on their mood and is quite bad at hiding their emotions, turning bright orange when stressed, monochrome when angry, or flushing a quite obvious bright pink when embarrassed.
