God of Blue Whales, The Mother of Gods
Motherhood, protector of children, guardian of childbirth, mother to orphans and those lost.
Blue Whale pipes are artifacts given out by Olrath personally to her children and one of her most powerful symbols. It is said that smoking from the pipe is the method to summon her and call upon her for aid, the pipe itself functioning as a shrine of sorts.
Whale shaped smoking pipes are Olrath's most well known symbol, often given out at festivals and holidays, and given to all of her children at a young age as a symbol of her protection.
The
Festival of Life is often regarded as a holiday associated with Olrath, along with Mother's Day.
Physical Description
Olrath very rarely takes on her divine form nowadays, instead appearing as an elderly Inuk woman. In her mortal form she is quite short with medium length gray hair she most often ties into a low bun and framing her face. Generally, she wears an ankle length blue robe made from seal skin and lined with thick fur, often said to be a gift from
Ferventi, God of Wolves as a sign of their alliance.
Mental characteristics
Olrath is one of the most ancient minor gods, having lived through millennia of wars, turmoil, and great changes in the world. She often regards herself as one from a different time, being different to the gods of today, but still their kin. Perhaps the only god outside of the majors nearly as old as she is would be
Ferventi, God of Wolves, though Olrath claims she is older than even him.
Her status as a god of motherhood has been well earned, as Olrath herself has had many children, but also due to that she is the first to offer guardianship to orphaned gods and their heirs. A great many of gods have been raised in her care, one of the most recent being
Yung Pagoni, God of Peacocks. She has not had children of her own in several thousand years, instead claiming that it is not her place to continue her lineage and rather that of her children, both by blood and adoption, to do so if they please. "The bloodlines of the future are written in those of today's era, not by their mother."
It's widely believed that Olrath may have had a romantic relationship with the Fallen God of Tuna, father to Ryoma, the current god of tuna, and that this relationship may have been kept a secret from the rest of the pantheon until his passing. This has not been confirmed, and Olrath has remained mum on the subject.
Olrath has raised and trained a great many of gods, many of whom have gone on to have long and prosperous reigns themselves. She is said to be one of the most patient with divine children as well, with deep kindness in her heart and capable of taking even the most unruly and uncontrolled young gods and train them to wield their power with incredible skill. Many of those she has raised have become incredibly successful gods, such as
Yung Pagoni, God of Peacocks, considered even more powerful than herself.
The centuries old nickname for wise women and female elders, 'Olrata' is derived from her name.
Olrath is known for having a great amount of wisdom that comes from her old age and is often called the god of wise women as a result.
Olrath puts the well being of the young and weak at the forefront of her morals, as a guardian and protector of children. She values the parent who tries, understanding that none are perfect, but that it is holding the best intentions and trying to do best by one's children that matter.
She will not harm or abandon any child or infant, firm in her role as a protector and guide, not that of a warrior.
Personality Characteristics
Olrath is fond of children and their antics, often participating in children's games.
Social
Ferventi, God of Wolves,
Sobki, God of Crocodiles, and
Soliairs Taeyang are considered strong allies of Olrath due to shared associations as gods of familial bonds, though in different ways. Ferventi and Olrath respectively share roles as the head gods of fathers and mothers, while Soliairs, Sobki, and Olrath are considered gods of children to their parents. Collectively, these gods are known as the gods of the home.
Her connection to Soliairs in particular is a bit odd, however, as Olrath herself does not seem to particularly enjoy their company or even like Soliairs personally, moreso than other young gods, but remains firmly allied to them regardless. It is perhaps due to Soliairs' past relationship with Yung Pagoni, one of many gods raised by Olrath, and Soliairs' ex-partner.
Among the
Cult of Ludovic, Olrath is highly revered for her wisdom and position as a god of wise women, with the cult often employing and reaching out to Olrath's own to use her priests as medicine women for their own needs and expeditions.
Despite having outlived nearly all of her own children by birth and many of her own grandchildren, Olrath refuses to forget or diminish them or the impact they have held on her life. She also refuses to cast any of her adopted children as 'other' from those she has borne, all are equal to her.
She keeps close ties with all of her children, continuing to act as a guide, comfort, and friend to them well into their adult lives. Relatives of her children and their romantic partners are equally welcomed into the fold of her odd family.
Despite her kindness, Olrath is firm and can be callous at times, especially when she disagrees with someone's conduct around or care for children. She is blunt and hard to move, immovable as a cliff face. She is also known to be a bit of a jokester among the gods, playfully poking fun at the younger ones and making harmless jokes and puns at their expense in good fun, though never maliciously.
Adoptive Mother (Important)
Towards Yung Pagoni, God of Peacocks
History
Olrath was given custody of the young peacock god when they were a young child, after the death of Pagoni, God of Peacocks , the previous god. Olrath raised them into a proper god, training them in all their duties and a love of mortals, with a drive to protect them.
Relationship Reasoning
As the Mother of Gods, Olrath often raises the heirs of gods and goddesses who died before their young proteges are able to fully take on the position. Any young god without a parent and still in need of protection is placed in her care.
Ally (Trivial)
Towards Ferventi, God of Wolves
History
Ferventi and Olrath are both ancient gods, of similar age. They are perhaps the last of their generation of gods still alive today. Both have a high degree of respect for one another and are known to frequently crack jokes about each other's age and vast amount of children, both by blood and not. Although allies, neither god has ever had reason to call upon each other for aid up until the War of the Moon, both being comfortable in their status as powerful gods.
Their allegiance stems from many shared ideals between the two gods and their respective cults, and both share many holidays and aspects, such as holidays surrounding parenthood and family.
Ally (Trivial)
Towards Ryoma, God of Tuna
Relationship Reasoning
It has been said by Ryoma that Olrath was a good friend of his father before his time and has hinted the two may have had a romantic relationship. One to keep good relations going, Ryoma has maintained friendship with Olrath throughout his life.
Rival (Trivial)
Towards Novi, The Goddess of Orcas
Relationship Reasoning
Novi and Olrath have never gotten along all that well and likely never will, a well known fact among the gods. Both view each other as out of touch with their respective duties and as hypocrites.
Their mutual disdain for one another is well known and frequently voiced whenever they are within earshot of each other.
distant ally
Towards Sobki, God of Crocodiles
Relationship Reasoning
Olrath and Sobki are both gods of motherhood, embodying very different aspects of it from one another and as such, their respective cults work quite closely in tandem with one another. Olrath, for most mortals, embodies motherhood of infants, while Sobki that of children, and many of their followers will shift from one cult to another over the course of their lifetimes.
They share in being leaders of Mother's Day celebrations, purposefully taking on different aspects of the holiday from one another to prevent competition. This also occurs in their day to day outside of the festivities and the aspect of motherhood, as outside of that, Sobki is often regarded as a war god, and Olrath a god of the home.
