Wolf Riders

Composition

Weaponry

Most wolf riders are equip with an array of weapons to use for a variety of tactics. The usual wolf rider will carry a rifle or bow and arrow for long distance combat when harassing enemy forces but not both, paired with thrown spears, generally 20-30, made from simple sticks and hurled using a spear thrower. For more close combat, the rider will use a lance or staff long enough to reach down from the back of their wolf.

Vehicles

Ferventi's Wolf Riders almost exclusively fight and ride from the backs of War Wolves, often the Wolf God's own children.

Tactics

Wold riders are most often used to infiltrate enemy lines due to their wolves' speed, power, and incredible ability to jump. Often they will rush across battlefields and leap over the front line of an enemy, or if attacking a fort, jump and climb over walls and defensive structures. In the chaos caused with the wolf riders attacking the rear of an enemy line, they will allow for other troops to attack, pinning enemies between them.   The wolves themselves are not just the vehicle for carrying out attack but a weapon themselves, trampling and biting any enemy they come across. It is not uncommon for the wolves to maul enemy troops by grabbing them in their maws and shaking them until dead, then using the corpse to bludgeon other ground forces.   Alongside horse riders, wolf riders often will harass enemy troops and herd them where the pack wishes them to be, a combination of archery and the wolves themselves snapping at the enemy to drive them along the battlefield.

Training

Wolf riders are trained extensively from the moment they decide to participate in war, due to how deadly any mistake can be. Most often, they train as cavalry first on the backs of horses to get used to riding an animal before they are allowed to ride upon a wolf, taking a season to specialize in the care of the pack's wolves. When the next summer comes and pups born that spring are beginning to leave the den, potential wolf riders are lined up before the den mothers they have been caring for. If deemed worthy by the wolfmothers, they will present them with a pup from her own litter.   These pups will be cared for by the wolf rider in training, their partner and companion. It is the wolf rider's duty to train the pup as it grows and grow alongside it, get it used to harnesses, saddles, and armor, and give it the taste for battle it will require. Not all pairs succeed through these trials and will often go on to become hunters for the pack. Those who do will be given the opportunity to perform canned hunts to test their abilities in agility, speed, and cooperation alongside other riders. One of the most primary acts riders are trained in aside from their ability to stay on a wolf is to scale walls, shields, and leap over obstacles.
