Battle Mother
The Dwarven Clans honour both prowess in battle and motherhood. The former as the providence of protecting the clan, the later as the continuation of the family line essential to the clan. Those who combine the two are honoured, and recognized by the elders of their clan, are granted the title of "Battle Mother'.
While many women may be elders, or gain other positions of Authority, the position of Battle Mother is unique within the clan. It is usually given to a woman who has had many children and also has the battle and strategic prowess to lead others into battle and govern. She is accorded a high position within the Clan, especially in matters of War and is considered to sire opinions of greater import than the other elders. Only the Dwarven Kings and Queens have more direct authority.
One only becomes Battle Mother through the acclimation of the clan, most specifically the Clans Elders, though it is more often a matter of recognition than of choice. That is the elders will only recognize some-one who has already achieved that which would gain them the rank.
Besides the politic benefits, Battle Mothers are accorded high respect throughout the clan. They seldom have to pay for anything and indeed will be provided for until their deaths. They are accorded a place of honour in the history of the clan and will have statues dedicated to them, and an elaborate tomb built for their honour when they depart.
