The CAROUSEL Newspaper
Local Paper:
There is but one paper printed that anyone really pays attention to. There are others… They come and go. They spark attention then become yesterday's news. But THIS paper, this is the one everyone looks to for tomorrow's news! Politics, religion, events, scandals… and most importantly, gossip! It's called: THE CAROUSEL.
THE CAROUSEL
THE CAROUSEL is a newspaper produced by a company called Quillton Press. A man named Master Griffon Quillton is the heir and owner of said company. He is not of a noble bloodline, but has made such a successful career for himself that the title “Master” was awarded him.
THE CAROUSEL features a carousel wheel with 8 spokes with emblems at the ends. The 2 perfectly horizontal spokes (both sides featuring a crescent moon) serve the purpose of creating a line between the top/bottom half of the wheel and the text, leaving 3 spokes on top and bottom, each with a creature/emblem. These are called The Six, and it's a big deal appearing in the articles referring to The Six. The top 3 spokes (feat. a unicorn, hippocampus, & swan) are coveted places of social status, intrigue, praise, and star-list attention. The bottom 3 spokes (feat. a wyvern, sea serpent, & dung beetle) are a place no one wants to be on as surely it will tangle the targets in drama, gossip, critique, and scandal!
“Of those papers for which there is the greatest sale, from four to five thousand are printed. It is not an exaggerated calculation to suppose that every paper has five readers, and that there are 250,000 people in England who read the news every day and converse upon it. In fact, after the “How do you do?” and the state of the weather, the news is the next topic in order of conversation.”
[Letters from England, vol 3, by Robert Southey, written as Don Manuel Alvarez Espriella, pub. 1814]
