Fort Hospital 11

Fort Hospital 11, also known as Meddine's Hospital, was one of the 387 Fort Hospitals built in the lead-up to the Djoro eruption. In between the eruption and the evacuation of the planet, it was run by android Meddine Burro.

Purpose / Function

The Fort Hospitals were to provide medical care in areas that could be affected by the supervolcano eruption, in addition to any surviving regular hospitals, and shelter for those waiting to be evacuated. Scientist Fazar Burro assigned one of his First Generation Androids to each of them, since they were designed to survive the eruption.

Architecture

As with all Fort Hospitals, it was designed and built to withstand the eruption and any consequences; including earthquakes, falling debris and lava. The outer walls are three meters thick, with advanced ventilation filters to keep out ash. Below ground level are accommodations for those not in need of urgent medical care.

History

Fort Hospital 11 was one of over 300 Fort Hospitals to be built by the Djor-Roa government in response to predictions that the supervolcano Djoro was building up to an eruption, in case the planned evacuation was not completed in time. The below-ground accommodations were meant to serve as shelter for medical staff, and it was kitted out not just with medical equipment but also living provisions such as food and clean water.
Fazar Burro meanwhile was creating the androids, in the belief that Azpal would not be prepared in time. The androids were designed to be able to survive the impending eruption and were educated in medical care. He assigned one to each Fort Hospital; the one assigned to Fort Hospital 11 was his daughter Meddine.
The eruption came five years earlier than predicted, before the evacuation had begun. While most had fled the immediate area around Djoro, Fort Hospital 11 was the closest one to the site which had patients admitted, as no non-androids had survived any closer. Only a few of the assigned medical staff had been in the hospital at the time of the eruption; the rest were either killed or admitted as patients. As a result, it was immediately overwhelmed.
It was in Fort Hospital 11 that cyborg technology was first used in patients, and where Meddine came up with the design for lung filters.
