Big Dune Settlement in Remnants of Diaghal | World Anvil

Big Dune

Big Dune is an oasis town in Qamenkas. While technically under the rule of the Baokish Territories, it has been a practical ghost town since 1336 MT, when the Territories razed it. Only recently has it come to prominence again as a base for adventurers.

Government and Defences

Big Dune is managed by Larkor Krul, a fiery and nosy Hobgoblin male with an overblown ego. While for much of its recent history the village was left to defend for itself, Suetane has sent a unit of the Shrouded Sisterhood mercenary company there in order to watch over the growing adventurer presence.

Commerce

Big Dune has practically no economy - the only support it now has comes from the adventurers looking to explore the ruins in Mojika’s Chain and the surrounding area.

Geography

Big Dune is in southeastern Qamenkas, and is part of the Baokish Territories. It is very close to Mojika’s Chain. Landmarks in Big Dune include:
  • Lockpick & Keyhole - a thieving and dungeoneering supply store owned by the female spiteful and mean Rouhai human Silkelra. However, since Silkelra is often out exploring the ruins of Qamenkas, the store is run by the constructs she has made: the homunculus Thumb, the soulbounded Jack, and a Harrow Doll known as “The Oracle”.
  • Hydra’s Blood - an alchemist specializing in potions, poisons, and herbs. It is managed by the staid and cowardly female Lizardfolk sylph Shaski. She is an albino and has a noticeable stutter.
  • Eril’s Stay - a comfortable windmill-turned-inn run by the dull and insensitive Canoku woman Eril. Previously a miller, Eril transformed her windmill into an inn in order to cash in on the flux of adventurers coming to the town.

History

Big Dune was founded in 1318 MT by a group of Tavanuan deserters fleeing the Aquamarine War. When the Baokish Territories came to them in 1336 MT and demanded they become part of their territory, the residents of Big Dune refused. The small conflict between the two ended when the Baokish Territories razed the village, killing most of the original inhabitants.   The village sat mostly abandoned until the declaration of the Qamenkas Dungeoneering Society by Shah Jezebeth. After the declaration, many adventurers flocked to Big Dune, chasing rumours of ruins in Mojika’s Chain and the surrounding desert.
