Port Sandy Settlement in Remnants of Diaghal | World Anvil

Port Sandy

Port Sandy is a port town within the Golden Palm Forest of southeastern Qamenkas. It is part of the Baokish Territories, and is used by the Zhao Ru of the Yeojin Families for smuggling. As part of an agreement with the Dragonscale Federation, it is also used as a pirate port. Port Sandy is known to be very dangerous for those visiting, with disappearances being commonplace.

Government and Defences

Port Sandy is managed by the pretty and diligent female Anua Elf Rilil Lightcloud. She is still considered to be a child, not yet a hundred years old, and joined the Zhao Ru soon after Fu Baoki was established after being exiled from her clan.   The settlement is defended by divisions of the three mercenary groups that protect Fu Baoki: the Fearless Hounds, the Wandering Shields, and the Shrouded Sisters.

Commerce

Port Sandy is used primarily for the smuggling operations of the Zhao Ru. It is also used by the Dragonscale Federation as a safe harbour for repairing their ships.

Geography

Port Sandy is located in southeastern Qamenkas, within the Golden Palm Forest in the Baokish Territories. It is on the coast of the desert, facing the Coravian Sea. Landmarks in Port Sandy include:
  • Sandy Hall - a Yeojin tong that, uniquely for most buildings of its type, is also used as a de facto seat of government for Port Sandy. Nobody resides within the hall, but it is used for meetings and delegations.
  • Depth’s Trove - a shop selling seafaring-related equipment owned by the self-assured and mysterious mermaid Gad Gal. The shop, with architecture in the Hitonese style, is situated on the docks. Holes in the floor and various places allow Gad Gal to pop up and speak to her customers.
  • Sturgarr’s Boutique - a clothing store run by the charming and passionate male Bugbear Sturgarr. The boutique specializes in fine fashions that customers usually purchase before heading up to Fu Baoki.
  • Proudhand’s Retreat - a worn, dingy, and squalid inn and tavern run by the sulky and unsure male Njaronse Dwarf Ankahm Proudhand. Most of its residents only stay in the Retreat if they cannot afford to stay in the Twin Tiger Tower, as the Retreat’s crumbling building, bland food, watered-down beer, and owner’s persistent cough rarely make it an enjoyable experience.
  • Twin Tigers Tower - a comfortable inn and tavern run by the candid and popular half-elf woman Tefrele Faedi. The tower, which is of a fusion of Hitonese and Qamenkasian architectural styles, is guarded by the stone statues of two tigers, one of which is a Sradesine Tiger, and the other of which is a Jinhanese Tiger. Each floor of the tower is its own private suite, complete with a balcony. The bottom floor acts as a tavern, complete with a stage for entertainment. It is often called “the safest place in Sandy”.
  • Shrine Square - a plaza of the town with shrines to various deities. Passing priests sometimes conduct rituals or give blessings there. There are five shrines - one to Velrun, one to Vishwamitra, one to Zehir, one to Nanyuedi, and one to the Torunuch Dogma.

History

Port Sandy was established by the Zhao Ru in 1345 MT to keep their smuggling operations outside of Fu Baoki, as they wanted to make the Jeweled City more appealing to those coming for the casinos. In 1358 MT, the Zhao Ru made a deal with the Dragonscale Federation to let them use the settlement as a pirate port.
