The Populares
The radical populist faction in the Apex Senate. They represent the views of the urban poor and the most outspoken supporters of arcane magic. They are closely allied to House di Donato .
Structure
Like all political factions in Apex the populares is more a loose coalition of like minded people, rather than a formal political party. They have no official leader, though there are a number of influential people who count themselves among the populares.
The Populares is associated with the Reform Club. The club is notable for allowing female membership, and for its many lively debates.
Public Agenda
To make an ever more perfect Republic. To this end they wish to disband the Council of Ten, seeing it as a regressive relic of the past, and a tool for the corrupt elites. They wish to replace it with a parliamentary government appointed by the senate. This is just one of a number of revolutionary goals of the populares. Others include land redistribution, debt relief, and efforts to make women equal in fact and not just in word.
The Populares also advocate for the rights of Arcane mages. They believe all should have the rights to use their natural gifts freely, so long as it does not harm others. They also more pragmatically believe that only mastery of the magical arts will give Apex the advantage it needs to win the wars to come.
Many Populares are also in favour of a war with Solace. Some in the party even go so far as to say that Solace should be burned to the ground. Senator Marcus di Porcius has taken to ending every speech on any topic with: "Furthermore I think Solace should be destroyed".
Assets
They have the favour of the Di Donato family on the Council of Ten, in addition to the personal funds of many senators. They are popular in the cities, and can always rely on the sympathy of the urban crowds.
Around 40 out of 150 senators are counted among the populares.
