The War that Never Was demonstrated that the Ordering could be defied. Many took advantage of this to break away from the old Order.

The Islands of the Iron Sea was lost to the Ordering. The Apex Republic sat square in the middle of the Ordering, a monument to defiance. The Cities of the Crimson Coast had declared self rule, nominally because the Ordering fleet was unable to lend them aid against the pirates.   Things got worse for the Ordering in 1234. Hansu the Many Faced had grown very powerful in the Eastern provinces. He had successfully kept these lands from joining with Apex, or revolting after repeated Collective raids. Now he himself stopped taking orders from Solace. He banished Gods and Guardians that refused his rule. Apex refused to allow Ordering forces access by land to The Wend Wall. No forces could be sent by sea for fear of a repeat of the Battle of Driftwood. By 1240 all of the east was lost to the Ordering.   During this time the Cobalt Order grew in influence. Many abbeys, cloisters and churches fell under their control. These places begun to developer into a sort of proto-country, with their own laws, rulers and officials.   The last disaster befell in 1322. In that year with no warning the western provinces, inhabited by the elves announced their secession from the Ordering. Juliar and Marel had administered these provinces, and they soon consolidated their power in the West, and their lands became known as Sundar.
