The Descent

  In the beginning Renata was a wild and dangerous place. All the creatures with thought roamed the land bringing only chaos in their wake. The young races would wage war on each other, no respite and no remorse.   The day would come when the gods descended unto Renata was not one of joy and celebration, but a day of slaughter. Two tribes were waging war on the fields of what would become the city of Solace . The battle was bloody and both sides reveled in the chaos when suddenly a light came down from the heavens and the gods came down unto the warriors of the battle. For a moment the fighting stopped and both sides looked up at the gods.   The gods looked upon the battlefield and were distraught. This was the first sin of the children. They pleaded to the warriors and begged them to stop fighting each other, and the warriors stood still. The gods continued to plea when the chiefs of both tribes came forward to confront the gods. Again the gods pleaded to all who could hear that the fighting was pointless and that they should lay down their arms, and embrace each other. The two chieftains laughed at the notion and made unkind remarks towards the gods, alongside their warriors. This was the second sin. After a final plea from the gods the chieftains ordered their warriors to attack the gods. This was the third sin, and it was unforgivable.   Standing side by side; Argus, Albron, Astarte, Kaurus and Hanshu fought the warriors and their chieftains in a hard fought struggle. The gods stood firm the entirety of the day, slaying many a warrior that attacked them. When the sun began to hang low the gods strength began to waver. Argus and Kaurus noticed their fellow gods tiring and challenged the chieftains to single combat. The chieftains charged forward and attempted to strike a blow, but the two gods used the last of their powers and slew the chieftains in one fell swoop. Stunned by what they saw the remaining warriors laid down their arms and fell on their knees.   The warriors lay on the ground and begged the gods to spare them. The gods would agree to do so, but they told the warriors that each and every one of them would be branded for their sins. They would carry the sins for the rest of the races and the mission of those warriors would be to aid the gods in bringing order to the world. When the world was united and peaceful, the warriors would be free of their burden and they would be able to pass on their sins.   The first task given to the sinning warriors was to bury all those who perished in the battle in the fields. All the warriors would bury their comrades and enemies over the next week, and the camp where they lived would become the first homes of that great city Solace   The tale of the gods descent is retold faithfully in the poem by the scholar Fidl Crasto who was chosen by the gods to write their tales.
