2021/09/15: Cubit - Mysteries Death Part 5 Report
General Summary
Knight, Sith, Immori, Keel, Ios
Investigating in a noble’s party. Trying to find and retrieve the Mazarin Stone. No violence allowed.
Notables:
Fiery-haired woman with 20+ Cha and skimpy clothing. Gisellis Firebrand. Mage, mover and shaker in the kingdom. Flaming blue hair.
Musicians suggest talking to the old poker-playing nobles.
Membo. Large, round gentleman. Owner of the estate. Very solid.
The stone is currently loose. It is on a person. It is not currently enchanted. Very distinctive in very strong light. Golden gemstone, a bit larger than a golf ball.
The stone was not stolen recently. It was carried into the building by “your associate”. It is being carried by a female. It looks like leather. It is not under a spell’s effect. The name of the person carrying the gem is “Death’s Blossom”. It’s 0.8 meters off the ground. It’s covered in leather.
Someone had slipped it into Immori’s pocket.
Gisellis has taken an earnest liking to Keel. The little prince at the party is lonely and likes Ios.
With the fourth test completed, the party was brought to the final zone. It's a four-story tall black tower across from a cathedral in what seems to be old London. The head guard was recently discovered dead. There’s a treasure trove of cultural artifacts and general wealth in the tower. The dead guard is the only guard. The building was closed and locked before he was found. The tower is resistant to magic from outside (i.e. the walls will just suck up a lightning bolt).
The guide for this series of Cubit rooms is named Doyle.
Extremely sturdy beams overhead in the third floor.
Guard has been murdered in a grisly fashion. Ripped apart, likely by something with teeth and claws. Slashes, stabs, claw wounds, tooth marks, horn marks. Multiple broken weapons lying around. No signs of the attacker. The guard appeared to be using a silvered halberd, which looks like it was beaten against stone until the edge was ruined, and then the haft was broken. Immori suggests it may have been gargoyles.
Guard was Kailin, Paladin of the Crown.
Immori found droplets of red wax scattered around. There’s a silverish substance inside some thin puncture wounds, possibly alchemical silver. Large claw marks on the top edges of one of the beams up above, near the top of the tower. Some suspicious dollops of soot on the opposite side of the room from the body. The top of the tower is glass with intricate gothic iron structural framework beneath it, dense to the point of impassibility. There’s soot from the city on the outside of the glass, but it looks like someone has wiped at the soot in one spot so they could look in.
After Knight started investigating the rafters more closely, the party was jumped by a margoyle and an assassin. We got hit hard, but Knight pureed the assassin and Keel mashed the margoyle. Sith resurrected the dead paladin. The assassin was there to kill a royal who would be visiting the church across the street.
Doyle is the great detective. We have freed him, and he will likely assist us in our mystery. He’s a very high level thief, though he has little equipment at present.
Downtime will be taken at the beginning of next session, so I’ve moved to the next day on the calendar (August 15, 23 ARL).
