The Rift Dweller
A powerful evil presence that was responsible for the soul-stealing effects in the Rift at the bottom of the Chasm of the Lost on Shisui. It was a being of negative energy, not sentient in the way most people are but still possessing a certain degree of cunning. Divination claimed that it was neither alive nor dead, and that the greatest weapon against it was also that which it sought most: strong souls and life force.
The Rift Dweller had three "faces", three forms it could switch between:
A 50-foot-tall kenku-like creature with an invulnerable bubble shield and a sword.
A collection of five large pillars in an X shape. The central pillar bore an eye that was protected by a sphere of annihilation and could fire seeking disintegration bolts like a machine gun. The other pillars were topped by hands and could bend to smash enemies flat.
The world's largest, furriest, most tentacle-covered centipede-like abomination.
Despite its great physical size and strength, its true danger lay in its ability to take; the Rift Dweller possessed a bevy of soul-stealing, life-draining, and negative energy attacks that would end any fight before it started if its enemies lacked powerful protections. Over the centuries, the Rift Dweller had siphoned the powers and strengths of many adventurers, and it could summon their shades to bolster its own power yet further. Truly, it was a being on par with many gods.
