As the First Battle of New Hallownest tapered off with the defeat of the lich leading the attackers, the heroes bearing the Soul Runes reached the Dark One in his necropolis. What exactly transpired there is unknown, but it ended with the Dark One shattered, the earth above the necropolis blown sky-high, and the runebearers missing.
