A war between Alvidar and its allies (including the Thorandul Empire) and the forces of the Dark One in the Underdark. It is also known as the war against Ancient Alvidar. While the two sides were officially at war for just over 800 years (with the marked starting date being approximate), the war went through many different stages and engagements separated by long periods of relative peace marred only by adventurer sniping.

A war between Alvidar and its allies (including the Thorandul Empire) and the forces of the Dark One in the Underdark. It is also known as the war against Ancient Alvidar. The Dark One was an evil god who could only be personally defeated by a group of heroes bearing the Soul Runes, marks that gave soul-deep connections to a group of ancient heroes who had fought the Dark One in the past. The Dark One’s forces primarily consisted of undead, mostly led by liches.   While the two sides were officially at war for just over 800 years (with the marked starting date being approximate), the war went through many different stages and engagements separated by long periods of relative peace marred only by adventurer sniping.   The war finally ended with the Dark One's defeat at the hands of a band of heroes bearing the Soul Runes. The Dark One's necropolis was blown sky-high and the Dark One was shattered into three parts that disappared over the horizon. What happened to the runebearers and their runes after that is unknown.
