Treaty of Udvala
The Treaty of Udvala was the agreement that turned the independent rikja of Rotskjolandland, once the most powerful of the Skjoldir kingdoms, into a colonial province of the Kalmasan Samraj.
After the distasterous loss in the battle of Udvala and the death of Rotskjoldland's last rik, Rik Torvald af Rotskjold, the surviving theotans of Rotskjoldland, led by the charismatic lord Mjolkar Mjolkarsen, negotiated the terms for peace.
The agreement allowed the theotans of Rotskjoldland to maintain their holdings and rank, but as provincial lords of the new Kalmasan province of Rotskjoldland. Mjolkar was chosen as rik during a moot approved and attended by the Kalmasan envoy. Under Kalmasan law, he was officially named rajan of Rotskjoldland, the provincial governor.
Kalmasa would respect Jolnir traditions and religion as long as Kalmasan Samraj's forces were respected and Samraji law was not violated. In addition, the Skaltir were granted official recognition as a tribe of their own by the Samraj with the protections that went along with that recognition.
The treaty established peace and prosperity in Rotskjoland and soon made it the wealthiest land in all of Heimval under the wise and crafty guidance of Rik Mjolkar. However, with the victory of the Volenaran colonies against the might of the Samraj and the death of Mjolkar of old age, many Jolnir begin to believe that they may wrest back independence from the southerners.
These fires of independence are fueled by the exploits of the pirate and last living son of Rik Torvald, Skarvi Eightfingers, as well as the sisterhoods of the Saedir and @Daenir, who have seen their power and influence slowly erode in the province.
