Eirunn

Eirunn is, among most people of Launceen descendance, considered to be the first settler in Retough and hailed as the founder of the Launceen sect on the continent. Though this fact is likely embellished, most scholars agree that Eirunn was a member of the first to exodus from the previous continent and land in Retough. Eirunn is steeped in mystery and religious significance, with the most devout followers of Hauism seeing her as the reincarnation of their God. Even without the religious importance, Eirunn is highly esteemed in her place as one of Retough's first leaders, quickly ascending a messy political ladder and securing herself as the first Queen in the kingdom that would later be known as Launce.   It was through her guiding hand that humanity found a life on the continent, turning a precarious landing into a prosperous civilization. She expertly created laws that would go on to be the precedent with which most laws derived from today, and with it she halted a string of bloody assassinations and riots that easily could have been the end of human life in Retough. She handled first contact with the Retough races with an adept care, ensuring the native dwarves and orcs would refrain from attacking the human settlements springing up on the coast.   Eirunn's deeds are many, and most scholars tend to believe many of these accomplishments were embellished after her death to ensure devotion to the deified ruler. It is by her name that the years are counted in Retough. Even those outside of Launce's sphere of influence will include "Her Year" after the date, a nomenclature that started as a result of time being considered Eirunn's gift to those in Retough. To many, Eirunn is the single most important mortal person to have lived in Retough, and many celebrate her alongside their gods, especially in Praetum and Launce where her influence was the most prominent. Upon her death, the kingdom of Launce found itself ruled by a hospitable, pious and merciful dynasty following Eirunn's lineage. Her daughter, Retawev, went on to be the foundation in which the name Retough was given to the continent.   As most things do, Eirunn's dynasty faded into obscurity after decades of lessening piety from its rulers. When the only direct descendant from Eirunn passed before he could carry on the lineage, a notable noble house took the throne in their absence and the benevolence of Eirunn's line dimmed completely. Even still, her influence on all lives in the continent is still remembered to this day and is often celebrated vehemently. Many celebrations of the anniversary of the first Landing in Retough are oftentimes overshadowed by instead celebrating Eirunn and her lineage.   No descriptions were ever given of Eirunn, leading many contemporary artists to depict her in a variety of looks, most oftentimes being a pale, tar-black haired maiden in royal regalia and a pious, physical aura about her, standing amidst rays of golden light. Of course, none of this is based in any level of fact and oftentimes the people depicting her will assign her the typical traits considered most beautiful to their culture.
