Mallin Tem Awsh

Mallin Tem Awsh is a Launceen explorer and adventurer, most famously known for his book To Catalog a Being, written in the 350's, Her Years. Awsh was one of the first in Retough history to embrace the different cultures found in this land, choosing to learn and understand these cultures as opposed to treating them as barbaric monsters. Most notably, Awsh was considered a diplomat to the Elven people and helped break down centuries of boundaries built up by humans in the years prior.   Mallin Awsh began life as a farmer's son, cultivating crops on his family's land for the first two decades of his life. Due to the centralized location of his home, travelers from all across the continent would pass by, asking for food, lodging, and a plethora of other things. Soon, their farm doubled as an Inn, and Mallin would come across plenty of people from all different walks of life. It was here he noted the different ways certain species would go about asking for lodging, and began writing down notes in order to better tend to certain customers from different cultures.   These notes eventually became the basis for understanding the deeper cultural and racial differences in Retough outside of just appearance. When Mallin became old enough to explore the world on his own, he packed light travel gear and set out to further expand his fascination with all the people of Retough.   It would take nearly another two decades to finalize his work. Most of his time was spent in the company of those who would accept him documenting everything; most notably, the elves of The Coalition to the north of modern day Sazaki and Sashao. This group of elves would happily share their deep ancestral past, leading to the largest wealth of knowledge any human had gathered on the species. Even today, six hundred years later, Mallin's writings are used to reference elven behavior and understanding important cultural significances.   Mallin would document on elves, orcs, dwarves, and over thirty other lesser known races during his life. His work continued well into his 50's, until his eventual death from sickness on his family's farmstead. He never finished his sequel to his most significant work, but eventually his colleagues posthumously compiled his scattered notes into a published work.   Even today, Mallin Tem Awsh is known to be the first true historian of Retough, and is highly regarded in Launce. His home still stands and is currently occupied by his descendants. The property was declared tax-free in the 630's Her Years due to the cultural significance of Awsh's works, an extremely honorable show from then-king of Launce.
