Star Duck Charms

A rare charm sold in the Pearl Market, the star duck charm brings luck and protection to those who keep it with them. However this good fortune comes at a price, and that price is being followed around by a waddling of ducks. These ducks will not harm the wearer of the charm, instead they will protect the wearer and attack anyone who tries to do them harm. There are usually seven to ten ducks at a time accompanying their master, menacingly following from behind like a pack of bodyguards. While they will protect the holder of the charm, they will not follow orders, and as long as you hold onto the charm, they will not leave you alone.   *It is important to note that these ducks are functionally immortal. They do not age, and will accompany the charm bearer for as long as they hold the charm   When nobody is holding the charm, these ducks dematerialize, and it is theorized that they enter Dreamscape. This theory however, implies that these ducks are similar or related to the dreamkin, making them semi-deific in nature.

History

Use of the star duck charm can be traced back hundreds of years. Believed to have originated in the region of Somnus, ancient Somnian rulers were often described being followed by a waddling of ducks. Somnian ducks were highly revered among the population, appearing in religous and political artworks as symbols of power. In paintings and murals of historical events, ducks are often depicted flying in the sky or waddling in the background.   The use of ducks as symbols of political power eventually ended with the collapse of Somnus, however the star duck charms and their magic remained, becoming a valuable artifact often sold in places such as the Pearl Market.
Star duck charms get their name from the astral patterns often used to decorate the charms. There are even variations of this charm where the duck is represented by a constellation.
