Dragonborn

The epitome of honor-based civilization, the Dragonborn place importance on socially conferred worth, reputation, and a positive social image, all of which can be granted or taken away by others. As such, insults to the individual or the clan are taken very seriously and are usually answered or addressed in a variety of ways depending on the clan's worldview. This worldview is often a result of their reaction to the constant strife the race has seen. The first Dragonborn War in Bastion was fought primarily with Dragonborn against Tiamat and her cult (which itself was comprised of mostly Dragonborn). Elsewhere in the world, they're seen as a rare oddity- filling the roles of mercenaries and in some unfortunate circumstances, slaves.   Some clans are militarists- conscription is seen as an unfortunate necessity, service is seen as a norm, and sacrifice is a common honor. Violence is a reality of life that must be faced and accepted. They embrace their draconic lineage and openly worship dragon gods they see as benevolent.   Other clans are seen as "working in opposite." After so much war they now seek peace at all costs and only participate in it if it's an absolute necessity. These clans place individual freedom and choice above the needs of the whole. They see their draconic heritage as a taint and condemn the worship of dragons.   The two extremes of Dragonborn society are less than binary. Many middle grounds exist, but certain Dragonborn tend to lean more on one side than the other. Chromatic Dragonborn clans are often more militaristic and Metallic clans are often seen as "working in opposite."   In recent years, a new type of Dragonborn has emerged: the Gem Dragonborn. They're exceedingly rare (even in Bastion) and their origin is currently unknown, but they tend towards the middle of the spectrum.
