Gnomes

Gnomes are people of vibrant expression and delighted dedication. Their lifespan ranges between three and four centuries, and they value every second of existence. Always striving to fully explore and understand the world around them, gnomes channel this enthusiasm into their many pursuits. It's this innate curiosity that has established them as Rhune's most advanced race. The smartest gnomes are capable of utilizing gunpowder, constructing mobile fortresses, and weaving the most complicated of spells.   Despite their immense knowledge and intense interest in all things foreign, most gnome civilizations try to avoid contact with other races. They understand that if the other races were to get ahold of their technology, it could be used against them. This is a lesson they learned the hard way when a foreigner infiltrated one of their cities and met with a traitorous gnome that leaked the schematics to their long-ranged gnomelock weaponry.   Chameleon Gnomes. Chameleon gnomes have mutable hair and skin color. They can make small changes on the fly, or dramatic changes over a few hours. While they sleep, they change colors in tune with their dreams, producing random and unusual combinations each morning.   Sensate Gnomes. Sensate refers to their enhanced perceptions. Colors are brighter, sounds are richer, and smells are more discernible to sensate gnomes. They're often seen as more in-tune with nature, but sensate gnomes are also known to be experienced city trackers.   Umbral Gnomes. Like the drow, umbral gnomes are gnomes that have been corrupted by the Shadowfell. This connection, coupled with their long lifespan, has led to the theory that elves and gnomes are in some way related. While not proven, some say that gnomes are akin to elves comparably to how halflings are akin to humans or kobolds are akin to dragonborn.   Wellspring Gnomes. Wellspring gnomes have a font of primal magic within them that intrinsically connects them to either a higher power or a higher plane. Depending on the source, these gnomes can cast certain spells as if they were cantrips.   Gnomes owe their life and their rivalry with kobolds to Garl Glittergold.
