Warforged

Warforged were created by the dwarves in ~50AC. Coming in many shapes and sizes, the warforged are amalgamations of metal and stone taken from the crater of the Collision. Imbued with the power of a star, warforged may be ageless constructs, but they're very much alive. The dwarves found a way to give them life- a soul. This soul can be artificially engineered, but in some grim circumstances, it can come from any fallen member of another race. They often take the personality of the soul that was bestowed to them, but they don't retain its memories. The greater the soul- the more resolute the warforged.
Their original purpose was to wage war against Tiamat and the other dragons that were plaguing the continent of Bastion during the Dragonborn Wars. Because of this, it's extraordinarily rare to see them outside of Bastion. Moreover, any warforged created during the Dragonborn Wars has a deep-seated hatred for dragonkind.
After the Dragonborn Wars, warforged continued to be made under a new name: starforged. Built as weapons, they must now find a purpose beyond the war. A starforged can be a steadfast ally, a cold-hearted killing machine, or a visionary in search of purpose and meaning.
