Beldwisön (Bell-d vis-Ayne)
Beldwisön is a Dwarven city in the bottommost point of the Deepwoods. The city began as a research outpost by the dwarves, as the main structure is a specially constructed glass dome observatory looking down into the core of the planet. It is here in Beldwisön where the concepts of “up” and “down” become blended and disorienting for unsuspecting travelers; many report that the experience of peering out beyond the depths, only to be looking at the bottom of other continents and the fiery core is a dizzying experience. Due to the great distance it takes to travel between Beldwisön and the surface, the city rarely gets travelers that aren’t Dwarves or Ma’at, or at the very least already used to an extended subterranean life.
Demographics
Most residents of the city are Dwarven or Ma’at, although the DRG has a respectable population of surface dwellers that have also joined.
Government
While the DRG is not technically a form of government, as they are the founding organization of the city they hold all traditional positions of authority typically associated with a government, and have a side branch of organization dedicated to supporting the city’s requirements, as well as a defense guard.
Guilds and Factions
The DWARVEN GEOGRAPHICAL DEPTHS RESEARCH GUILD (otherwise known as the DRG) is the major guild organization in the city.
History
The city was founded after the sundering of the world sometime in the beginning of the Second Age of Peace.
Points of interest
The Observatory is the original structure the city revolves around. Though the building from street level looks relatively normal, once inside on the observation deck it is easy to see the glass dome peering down into the planet’s exposed core. From there, it is also easy to see streams of magic leylines traveling between the different continents as they float around the core. “Surface” weather can also be observed for neighboring continents at times. Stargazing is not ideal, due to the brightness of the core. Eye protection is advised.
