Free Republics of Lusia
As the war with Carassia began in earnest, a collection of separatist groups that had been bubbling under the surface of Lusia for decades seized their opportunity. Calling on the people to overthrow the indulgent and complacent leaders who left them in the dirt for too long, the revolution began in earnest. After a number of successful strikes against the Lusian government and the seizure of forts and important structures, the Free Republics were established, led by revolutionaries chosen by the people. The current number of cities, towns, and other locations that consider themselves members of the Free Republics is nearing fifty, and the revolution has no plans to stop anytime soon.
Simmering Sentiment
Between the staggering wealth inequality, food shortages, unlawful imprisonment of friends and neighbors, crackdowns on activities that the tourists partake in but locals can't, ever-increasing taxes with no benefit for the people, destruction of neighborhoods to build new resorts, and the high honor of being the only nation with legalized indentured servitude; there are plenty of reasons the Lusian people hated their fabulously wealthy leaders. In Lusia, political power is quite literally purchased, so the overwhelmingly poor general populace felt powerless to change anything. It wasn't until they saw how swiftly the Republic of Carassia fell from the inside out, how quickly a group could overtake their rivals and establish a new order, that they began to wonder if things might change here, too. Over the last 20 years, an underground network has been growing, recruiting, distributing information and supplies, and biding their time, ready to usher in revolution and dismantle the Lusian Plutocracy.People's Revolt
The revolutionaries will proudly tell you that they didn't get any help from outside their lands. All of their ranks are Lusian citizens, born and raised under the thumb of the elite and working together to overthrow it. Thousands from the Lusian military deserted and joined the revolution as well, bringing their experience and teaching their new allies how to fight, citing the horrid treatment they suffered under incompetent leaders who simply threw lives at the invading Carassians. Many Lusians who disagree with this whole "revolution" idea will tell you the Free Republics are really run by Carassia, funded by them too. They'll tell you the leaders are all Carassian agents, meant to disrupt the continental Lusian life to make the war for the islands easier. Many Free Republicans will tell you the same about their neighbors who refuse to take a side or stick with the old elites. How can you live a life stuck to the whims of a wealthy despot and not want to change it? Obviously only a Carassian plant could hold such a ludicrous belief. The New System
The demands of the revolution are relatively simple in principal: direct, representative democracy based on the full-time population of the city; outlawing of indentured servitude; equal treatment under the law; and just wages for all workers. When you get into the nitty-gritty and speak with various revolutionary factions, the details may differ. So far, the cities that are part of the Free Republics have banned servitude as a punishment and implemented systems of voting, and are sending their representatives to the new senate in Quattata. Several cities have taken the wealth of their elite plutocrat citizens. Some fewer have put those plutocrats to death. The representatives voted on the big measures right away and now are leaning to govern in the details, and how to establish relations with other regions.Notable Places:
