Placid Wyrm

The Placid Wyrm is a mythological creature belived by the Vāhagla Circle to reside among the godstombs, slumbering where the Quietus is thickest. They believe that this creature is the incarnation of the dead gods' collective resentment.   Though it is thought that the Placid Wyrm is currently asleep, the Vāhaglaya believe that its mastery of the Quietus is so absolute that even in its dreams, it is capable of directing the movements of the black fog. Indeed, they believe that the Placid Wyrm is responsible for whenever the Quietus surges, its eternal hunger driving it to seek out the living even in the depths of its slumber.   The Placid Wyrm is the monster that will bring about the end of the world in the eschatology of the Vāhagla Circle. It is said that when it rouses from its slumber, its roar will shake the world and break open the godstombs, allowing the corpses of dead gods to roam the world once more. It would flap of its wings to send the Quietus billowing out to the corners of the cosmos, obliterating life wherever it goes.   The Vāhaglaya believe that every soul the Quietus takes is a soul that feeds the Placid Wyrm, replenishing its energy so that little by little it may wake from its deep sleep. They believe that when enough lives have been sacrificed to the Quietus, the Placid Wyrm will wake and bring about the end of the world.
