Prisoner Units

Prisoner Units are the five person ARK units, consisting of recruited prisoners. Prisoner units are required to wear a form of ARK ID which functions similarly to an ARK agent's ID, however instead of being administered through a sub-dermal chip the prisoner unit ID takes the form of a metal wrist band.

Composition

Manpower

A prisoner unit, like an ARK unit, consists of five people.

Weaponry

As with ARK, soldiers in prisoner units are expected to use whatever weapons they feel most comfortable with. Unlike ARK weapons, however, these weapons are rarely enhanced by ARK. Of course the weapons technology available to ARK is such that it doesn't nessecarily matter whether or not there are additional enhancements to the weapon.

Structure

Prisoner units don't have an internal command structure, the five members of each unit are on equal standing as one another. When a prisoner unit is deployed or in use, they will typically answer to the captain of whatever unit they're assisting. If they're not being deployed on a mission with an ARK unit, they will answer to Polaris. Although some PUs may elect to chose a leader, that PU has no more technical power in the eyes of ARK than any of the other members.

Training

Prisoner units are less heavily trained than ARK units. Part of their contracts is the maintaining of the skill that got them into the prisoner unit, and as breaking the contract ends their service with ARK they're expected to keep up with their training on their own.

Logistics

Recruitment

Prisoners can be recruited into prisoner units only by the Council. Recruitment to a prisoner unit requires the prisoner in question to sign a contract that outlines what freedoms will and will not be afforded to them.

Dismissal

A prisoner units time with ARK can come to an end under two main conditions: by breach of contract or by the prisoners sentence being completed.

Termination of Contract

The contract states that should a prisoner no longer meet the standards expected of them by ARK, the contract will be null and void, ending the prisoners service with ARK.   Dismissal due to a breach of contract typically results in the contracted prisoner being removed from ARK and returned to prison. In the event that a crime was committed that lead to the termination of the contract, a previously contracted prisoner may be tried for that crime.

Completed Sentences

If a prisoner unit finishes their contract in this way, the former prisoner unit is free to go. They are not required to stay at ARK. Their PU wristbands user end functions are disabled barring a former prisoner unit from using it to access confidential ARK information. The former prisoner unit will continue to be heavily monitored by ARK, and when the contract expires they may choose between keeping their wristband (which will be unable to be removed) or having a chip implanted into their arm. Either way, ARK will track their movements through one of these two methods.   A prisoner unit leaving ARK due to completing their prison sentence is rather rare. For starters, the majority of prisoner units are serving sentences that last for several decades, and a disproportionate number of prisoner units are serving life sentences as compared to non-ARK employed prisoners.   If a prisoner unit is particularly valuable to ARK, they may find that as the time approaches for their sentence to end their case is suddenly reopened and new charges are levied against them, extending their sentence and (by extension) their contract to ARK.
