Kurgast
The second largest city of Dardania is called Kurgast, meaning “the city of the Kurgans” in their former enemy’s language. It is located near the mountains that separate Dardania from Honshu and Kurgan, near the rich veins of ores that sparked many wars. The city was founded by the Kurgans as a mining outpost, but was captured by the Dardanians after a fierce battle. The city is built on several terraces, connected by stairs and bridges, and overlooks a deep valley. The city is defended by a series of watchtowers, forts, and traps, designed to repel any invaders.
The city is divided into three parts: the upper town, the lower town, and the mines. The upper town is where the Dardanian elite and the Kurgan minority live. It has the best views, the most spacious houses, and the most amenities. The upper town is also home to the Temple of the Sun, where the Dardanians worship their god, who they believe dwells in the sun. The temple is a magnificent structure, with a golden dome, a large altar, and a solar calendar.
The lower town is where the Dardanian commoners and the Kurgan majority live. It has more modest houses, shops, taverns, and workshops. The lower town is also home to the Market of the Mountain, where the Dardanians trade their goods with the Rodinians and the Kurgans. The market is a lively and colorful place, where different cultures and products can be found.
The mines are where the Dardanian slaves and the Kurgan prisoners work. They dig, smelt, and transport the ores that make the city wealthy. The mines are dark, dirty, and dangerous, and many workers die or get injured. The mines are also home to the Shrine of the Earth, where the Dardanians and the Kurgans worship their ancestral spirits, who they believe dwell in the earth. The shrine is a simple cave, with a small fire, a stone altar, and a few offerings. The mines are run by the Rodinians since their invasion.
The second largest city of Dardania is a prosperous and diverse place, where different peoples and religions coexist, sometimes harmoniously, sometimes not. It is a center of mining, trade, and culture, both for the country and the region. It is also a city of contrasts, where the high and the low, the native and the foreign, the free and the enslaved, clash and mingle. It is a city that reflects the history and the destiny of Dardania.
