Matsu Yoshiro
Yoshiro's mother is Matsu Yoko, and his father is Isawa Kenzou. At first, they feared he'd be good at nothing, as he was neither good with magic nor particularly aggressive. He was, eventually, sent to the Kitsu field medic school because Yoko could not stand the idea of him settling into the life of a courtier, or, worse, a monk. He has an elder brother who has always impressed those around him, and to whom Yoshiro holds a grudge. Despite his initial lack of interest in being a bushi, he did show a talent for it, and his father pressured him and the clan to send Yoshiro to the Topaz Championship in order to try and mend the relationship rift between his mother and him.
After quelling the Nothing in their homeworld of Rokugan, Yoshiro and his companions were forced to leave through Oblivion's Gate to seal the Darkness away. They found themselves in an alternate world--similar to their own, but further forward in time with events somewhat off-kilter. Although he attempted to get reaccepted into the Lion clan, the Lion had no interest in an unspoken for Ronin in this tumultuous time--even one who claimed to be a hero. He was content to accept his life as a Ronin with his Dragon lover, Mareko, but fate--and his friend Homura--had other plans. The Deer clan accepted him and he gained a new last name, and a different life, although his priorities were still his relationship.
After being reaccepted as an Emerald Magistrate and being called upon to fight in a great war against Kalima, the new Champion of Jigoku, Yoshiro found himself as the center of attention when his lover asked the Empress to give them permission to have a Wedding in the Winter Court as his reward. Now he follows Mareko around and tries not to react when he is constantly introduced as Mareko's husband to every passing stranger.
