Zhe Na Honors his Parents

Life, Death

126AW

Longwang answered prayers for rain and ended a long drought, but was unsatisfied with the offerings from Zhe Na's people. Zhe Na resisted for awhile, but eventually commuted suicide to sacrifice himself to the Dragons, and return his bones to his father.

In Zhe Na's homeland, drought threatened his people. They prayed to Longwang, called Ao Guang in those days, and rain came.
The people left offerings of food for the Dragon King, but he rejected them all, instead wanting to devour human children. He sent his general, Hu Tzeshe, to collect a boy and girl to eat from among the people. Zhe Na and some other children were playing by the shore when Hu Tzeshe arrived and captured a friend of Zhe Na's. Angered, Zhe Na fought Hu Tzeshe and mortally wounded him. The general returned to the Dragon King ashamed, and told him what happened to him.
After tending to his wounds, Longwang demoted Hu to the rank of Heavenly Stablemaster of Seahorses and transferred him to Minister Mazu's Heavenly Office. Hu Tzeshe begged Ao Guang to send someone else to fight Zhe Na. At this, Longwang sent his son Ao Bing.
Zhe Na easily slew Ao Bing in combat.
Frustrated and indignant, Longwang summoned his brothers and confronted Zhe Na and his family. He threatened to make good on the prayers for rain and completely flood Zhe Na's homeland, in addition to reporting Zhe Na to the former Jade God.
In order to preserve honor and save his family and homeland, Zhe Na immediately committed suicide. He carved off his flesh and arranged his bones for his father and mother, 'returning' these to them as repayment for the debt of his birth.
Then the Five Dragon Gods celebrated with the people.
