“Students rejoice! This is a time for celebration, a time to sit amongst our peers and anticipate all the exciting changes to come!”— Prof. Mavinda Sharpbeak
For decades, Strixhaven has seemed - for many - an impossible feat, a daunting & competitive endeavour, a ‘privilege’ granted only to a select few. All of that, however, may soon change.
It began this past winter, when Bjorn the Noble, patriarch of the House of Burninghammer, decided to sponsor four very special students for Year Two at Strixhaven University. The announcement was made during the annual Gala held at Burninghammer Palace. As we all know, the event was interrupted by an Ominous Robber & Infiltrator who Quarreled with said group of heroic first-years - and lost.
The attacker - who is now serving his sentence at Rundlestrom Prison - has been publicly identified as Hugo Arneza, a Strixhaven alumnus and father of first-year Larine Arneza. News from this event, however, did not end there…
It was announced that an additional five lucky students will ALSO be sponsored by House Burninghammer next year - low funds, a personal statement, and an unwavering desire for knowledge are listed among the criteria to qualify for this new scholarship. Such a generous act has not only exemplified how Bjorn the Noble earned his name, but it has also led many noble families in Arcavios to question their own financial decisions, wondering instead whether investing in bright young minds is to become the way of the future… To further illustrate the implication of such a move, the Strixhaven Star recently received an opinion piece from an upper class Silverquill student - who has decided to remain anonymous.
“An unexpected announcement, certainly, but a welcome one. Strixhaven’s doors should be open to all, not just the rich.”— Dinora Dapplewing, Captain of Strixhaven University
“This masterstroke is undeniable proof that the Burninghammers are always three steps ahead of other, lesser noble families. They understand the business sense of positive publicity, and the long-term benefits of courting the good will of future Strixhaven alumni,” claimed the Anonymous reader. One cannot help but agree… What better way to appeal to the masses than to give back? When the majority of wealth goes only to a select few while the majority is faced with poverty & financial obstacles, it is difficult not to hold some resentments. “Should the nobility decide to follow Bjorn the Noble’s lead, perhaps it may mark the beginning of a new era. Only time will tell…” (For the full opinion piece, see pg. 3)
