Brana
Brana is a city on the edge of the Idran empire with a unique atmosphere that is a bit more open than Oja or the other main cities of the Idran empire. Brana lies nestled between the Jofi jungle to the East and the Jecal river to the south. There are many travelers and visitors from outside the Idran empire in Brana. Brana is also under less scrutiny by the Dyna than the capital. The city has a rich history as it has belonged to many lands before it was brought under the rule of the Idrans. The people of Brana, Branans, are welcoming, friendly, and ready to hear a good story.Welcome to Brana!Pearl of IdraGlittering city on the riverGate to the Empire
Layout
The streets are remarkably straight and organized on a grid in Brana. Most of the city burned down in the war with the Idran military, so large swathes of the city have been rebuilt with modern ideas of city planning in place. Most of these areas are now residential with buildings in orderly rows. Nearby are districts with more stores and restaurants. Everything is walkable in small neighborhoods that make up the bigger city. Some areas of the original architecture remain downtown, and these areas are prized especially by the large population of Fiej that make Brana their home. These buildings are far more organic and sporadic. Streets in these areas are cobbled with large ruts and many areas in need of repairs.Industry
The main industry in Brana relates to the nearby jungle and river. The area is rich in natural resources which are harvested in sustainable manners built on the long term practices of the Fiej. In places, the Fiej are the only ones that participate in harvesting resources because of the trecherousness of the terrain. One example is the Jofi jungle, which is thick and twisting and dangerous for those that have not grown up learning its ways. The fibers and animals and woods of the Jofi jungle would likely long ago have been exhausted if the Idrans were able to penetrate deeper into the jungle. As it is, they must trade with Fiej who practice traditional harvesting. The most famous plant matter in the Jofi jungle is that of the Jofi fern that is spun into Humdra, a fine fabric that graces the most wealthy of Idrans in the most fashionable streets of Oja. There are all manner of fish, shell fish, and marine plants that are useful for cooking in the Jecal river. Many Fiej dishes incorporate these resources and some Idran and Fiej cooks alike have begun to fuse these traditional recipes with new flavors and methods of preparing food. Fish are the main export from Brana. There are several sayings related to things being "fresh from Brana" due to this.People
The people of Brana are a mix of those from throughout the Idran empire, immigrants from outside Idra's borders, and a high percentage of people from the native Fiej. This gives the city an open, welcoming vibe that is appreciated by travelers and strangers to the Idran empire. Curiosity and hospitality are common as opposed to the more xenophobic sentiments that pop up from time to time in Oja. There is a higher density of hospitality shelters in Brana compared with other parts of the Idran empire. Brana's politics are notably more liberal than other areas of the Idran empire with progressive programs for social welfare frequently upheld in referendums.
