Capita

A city located high on the side of the mountains, inhabited by rich merchants and nobility. The place most citizens yearn to move to, but the fewest manage to reach do to the high price of anything withing the city be it housing, food or clothes. Only the immensely rich can live here.

Districts

Capita has a circular band structure with higher areas being more rich and luxurious, apart from the shadow alleys.

Golden Spire

Home to the Capitan Court, the Golden Spire is one giant palace located at the very top of the mountainside, where the leading figures of Capita who are rich enough to buy their way in, host events for each other and discuss the political leadership of the city. The current Patron of Capita (a title obtained by being the highest bidder of the court on the annual auction, proceedings go to the Capitan coffers which pay infrastucture and security expenses) has access to residential areas within the Golden Spire and is in charge of planning events and meetings for fellow court members.

Palacial District

The palacial district is home to hundreds of large impressive palaces and house the richest citizen of all of Ropla. A single market area in this district houses luxurious stores where the locals can get personal service and tailored solutions for any problem they might have.

Greenview District

This district of luxurious mansions are second only to the palaces of the district above in terms of price. It has the view of the sunset over Brunden common to the rest of the rich parts of the city, but also a gorgeous view overlooking the forests and plains of Blant's Cove and the surrounding territories.

Wildview District

This district has the view tainted by a view of the swamps of Slemp, which many try to block out with walls. Even if this hides most of the swamp, mansions closes to the wall experience a mispleasing smell on warm days flowing in over the protective walls of the city.

Seaview District

This large district at the bottom of the city near the walls is home to citizens who have just managed to buy their way inside the city. Though the homes are still pretty, they fade in the shadows of the luxurious mansions and palaces in the districts above.

Collect Shadow Alleys District

The Shadow Alleys are spread all over the city. Wherever there's an alley from which the sunset over Brunden is not visible, that is a shadow valley. The main residents of Capita completely avoid these area. The crime rate is really low, but it is the home of servants and workers, and their less than impressive homes and markets seem ugly and worn next to the luxurious mansions of the other citizens. Stay and housing within Capita in the Shadow Alleys is only allowed for people with proof of employment from higher ranking citizens, as such, a dismissal might lead to a complete eviction from the city.

Safe Gate Market

The safe gate market, named after the tight security meant to keep out criminals arriving from Skygst and Haven, is blocked from the outside by toll houses and guard stations. Entrance is slow but exit is relatively quick, especially for a sold out merchant with little leftover merchandise, so the market is not overflowing. Many consider this beneficial, as it makes the market less busy and leaves more air around the stalls.

Main Gate Inner Market

The main gate inner market is popular trading spot, however, less than half of the arriving merchants make it through the gates with the goods due to suspected criminal origin, criminal intentions or lack of proof of employment. In spite of this, the market is extremely busy with many merchants arriving fully stocked and leaving within a few days.

Main Gate Outer Market

The outer market is an unregulated market on sides of the entrance road where to rejected merchants stay for a while in an attempt to make a profit out of their trips or making a new attempt at entry. Most Capitan citizens rarely leave the walls, so not much money is made in the market at this side of the wall.

Harbor District

In the harbor, trading boats arrive and leave with goods and passengers. The sea is the easiest route to Ellik from Capita. Mers are often found attempting unauthorized access to the city by swimming around the guard towers on each side of the harbour.

Demographics

Populated by rich people and their servants. This includes traders, nobles and other economically successful people.

Government

This city is run by the richest people of the city who can buy their way into the Capitan Court.

Defences

Home to the Capitan Guard which is a prestigious well paid military group in luxurious armor, accepting only the most promising recruits. The guard heavily guards the streets, especially markets and residential areas which are extremely attractive to thieves, robbers and burglars, assuming they make it into the city in the first place. The gate is heavily guarded and proper identification and purpose is required to enter the city, which is surrounded by a thick wall on most sides.

Industry & Trade

Traders densely inhabit the city and most have holdings in other territories producing revenue.

Infrastructure

Main means of transport if the grand avenues allowing the entrance of horse carts into the city. Running water and sewers are available and a primitive form of electricity is also available.

Guilds and Factions

Home to the trader's guild headquarters.

History

A relatively recent city founded when a rich tradesman wanted a prestigious home, and encountered a mountain side with a particularly beautiful view at sunset. As a tradesman, he did not look for agricultural or mineral resources when looking for a home. The place soon attracted many other tradesmen and nobles, successful enough to have holdings in multiple territories without the need for their constant presence.

Architecture

Most buildings are large beautifully decorated mansions and palaces, with large windows all turned in the same direction.

Geography

The city is located on a large hillside. All noble residences can view the beautiful horizon at sunset when the sun dives below the sea. The city is steep enough that all noble and trademan residences and markets have this view. Only servants areas are located in the so called shadow alleys, from where the sea and sunset is not directly visible.

Borders

Capita is surrounded by Penny Grove, Arctic Points, Blant's Cove, Brunden, and Slemp.

Penny Grove and Arctic Points

Wood is imported heavily from Penny Grove and minerals and gems from Arctic Points by the main tradeway entering Capita at the crossing between Capita, Penny Grove and Arctic Points. Here a large gate with multiple toll offices and guard stations allows entrance into the city. The wall is especially thick in this area, as it is not only a highway for trading goods, but also for thieves and other criminals from Skygst and Haven. The main tradeway continues left around the city wall along the Penny Grove border to Slemp, and right around the city wall along Arctic Points to Blant's Cove. This road marks the border of both of these territories.

Blant's Cove

A large variety of timber is imported directly from Blant's Cove, but it also forms the highway to obtain goods from Ventura, Vitu and their surrounding lands. The main gate of Capita is located on the middle of this border, and a large market is located on both sides of this gate. Merchants and travellers refused at the gates tend to stick around outside trying to cell their wares. The wall continues towards Brunden but with no road next to it.

Brunden

Capitas large harbor marks the borde between Capita and Brunden. Large towers on each side of this border continues the wall out into the water to prevent criminals sneaking around the wall. Transport of people and goods between the harbor and city is strictly controlled, and this area is heavily guarded. The city carefully avoids poluting the sea to avoid diturbing their view. Chimneys and other tall structures, or structures and activities emitting smoke or steam are also strictly prohibited in the harbor for the same reason.

Slemp

A small gate is located at the border to Slemp near the coast. Here the city recieves wares and goods from foreign lands such as Konom, which cannot be transported by sea, however, Capitanas prefer avoiding this area as it is not as aesthetically pleasing. Mansions on the side of the city with a view to Slemp are the "cheapest" of the city, and wares from transported through here might be avoided as well, if splash from the water is seen on containers or goods. Merchants try to carefully clean it off, but the smell often lingers behind.
