However, the era was marred by a significant event known as The Blackout, a prolonged nationwide power outage lasting five years, caused by taldinite shortages and refinement issues. The Blackout led to a regression in technology, and the original refinement process of taldinite was lost, resulting in a new, less clean refinement process that brought about crude fuels and diesel.
