Magick

Magick is not a natural occurence in Rubrik. No person is born with the ability to cast magickal spells. It originates and is granted from a place beyond our own. This place is called the Otherworld. Magick as we know it has been around since before the Era of the Beast: 1AB - 1430AB, but knowledge of such things were lost to time, only recently having been rediscovered. Let it be known that the term magick, is the term coined by the Balidanian philosopher and adventurer, Solomon Quresh. The term, though not entirely accurate, aids the vast majority of citizens to grasp what magick truly is.
Magick has become a cultural phenomena with its arrival to the masses coming very late in Rubrik's timeline. Different countries and peoples obtain and utilize magick in different ways. For example, Solomon Quresh first obtained magick by coming across a Djinn, a creature from the Otherworld. This djinn bestowed some of its power unto Quresh. This power came with a cost, or a price. This form of magick would later be termed Nihilimancy.
Magick is usually always granted to a human. No human is born with inherent magickal ability. At certain points in history, magick has been taken, seemingly without price or consequence, or so it appeared. When magick is taken and not obtained, this price can be detrimental to not only a specific person but to an entire bloodline, ethnicity, or group of people. There is always a cost associated with obtaining or using magick.

Otherworld

The Otherworld, from what we've learned, is the origin point of magick. Very little is known about the other place, but there are a few things we do know. For one, we know that there are beings, entities, and creatures that reside there. Djinn and demons are present and particularly vocal from the other place. These creatures are malevolent and will grant portions of their being and power to those in Rubrik willing to pay their prices.

During the The Era of the Beast, beasts were bestowed with the power of the Otherworld. The reasons being a mystery. We know that the last of the magickal beasts were hunted and killed shortly before Solomon Quresh discovered magick himself.
We also know that some of the dead and departed of Rubrik also inhabit the Otherworld, which leads some to theorize that the Otherworld is in fact a place of divine power, though this has yet to be confirmed. Many people of Scal ethnicity utilize magick in the summoning of ghosts and the recently departed. Some have been known to summon ghouls and certain demons as well. While many people of Vecentia harness magickal rings that are said to contain the spirit or power of their ancestors who aid in their architectural magicks.

Manifestation

Magick has a particular look tl ot depending on the means it was granted. For example, magick grenged from the spirit world has a silvery or pale green smoke-like appearance, while magick granted from the denizens of the Void has a black and deep purple color and looks like liquid smoke.
