Guildhall
The Grand Guildhall is a huge, oval shaped building in the Middle Ward, near the Market Square. Here all the guilds of the city were registered and conducted their business. Its floors are a labyrinth of hundreds of offices for the various guilds and other bureaucrats. Across two floors you can find offices for every guild in the realm, from the Royal Guild of Apiarists to the Venerable Association of Woolers. In addition, there are various meeting halls for conducting the business of the realm. Buried beneath the building is a sublevel that houses the guild vaults. It is within these vaults that the massed wealth of the mercantile class was stored. No one knows what became of the contents of those vaults and rumor says that wealth lies there still.
Purpose / Function
The Grand Guildhall was where all the guilds were registered and conducted their business in Drakkenheim and throughout Westemar. They also stored their wealth here. The vaults beneath the building are rumored to be overflowing with gold, silver, precious gems, and priceless works of art.
Alterations
There is now a massive hole in the roof through which sunlight filters through the Haze, casting everything in a pale violet light. The hole extends down through the building and ends in a large pool of brackish water which has collected from rain it let in.
Architecture
This rotunda is built of sandstone mined from quarries in the Glitter Mountains. The cost of transporting the stone to Drakkenheim was a measure of the wealth of the guilds. Massive columns support the oval roof that overhangs the flat face of the building. Heavy double doors of mahogany, carved with intricate patterns, stand shut, barring the way into the spacious foyer from with multiple halls lead further into the network of offices.
Defenses
The various guild offices have locks on their doors. What security measures are still present within the vaults, who could say?
Tourism
Before the meteor, the Grand Guildhall was constantly abuzz with activity as the various businessmen went about their dealings. Now no one comes here. If anyone has ventured within since the meteor, they haven't returned to tell the tale.
