Factions in Runetalras

Factions are a key aspect of life in Runetalras, they exist as both state and nonstate actors, and they embody shared principles, shared desires, shared religious beliefs, or shared ambition.
Ranks: As a member of a faction you have a rank, the five ranks are Recruit, Novice, Apprentice, Expert, and Master; factions may have different names for these ranks, for example the Lords of the Storm call their Master ranks Exarchs, or may have more than five ranks in their organisation, the Arcane Bastilles have twelve ranks, but for mechanical purposes multiple ranks may be grouped together into these five mechanical ranks.
Joining and Ranking Up: To join a faction you will typically have to either give the faction something which they want or perform a quest for them. For the former, it could be something as simple as coin a fee to join the faction, or an item which they may want, for example the Moonlit Keep allows people to join in return for rare or unique books. For the latter, a faction may ask someone to eliminate a rival or enemy, or force an individual to hand over coin that they owe a faction. Similarly, to increase your rank within a faction you will be asked to complete a quest for a faction.
Joining Multiple Factions: You can of course join many factions, and this is indeed likely in an adventurer's career. An individual party member can only gain the benefit of one faction at any given time, you can change the faction you want to gain the benefits from at the end of a Long Rest. Each party member shares the rank of the highest rank party member, and each individual party member can join a different faction.
Types of Factions: Factions can broadly be grouped into several categories, Adventurers and Explorers, Crafters, Criminal and Underground, Knowledge and Information, Magic, Militant, Natural and Druidic, and Religious, each with its own unique benefits.
