Demacia

A strong, lawful kingdom with a prestigious military history, Demacia’s people have always valued the ideals of justice, honor, and duty most highly, and are fiercely proud of their cultural heritage. But in spite of these lofty principles, this largely self-sufficient nation has grown more insular and isolationist in recent centuries. Now, Demacia is a kingdom in turmoil.   The capital, the Great City of Demacia, was founded as a refuge from sorcery after the nightmare of the Rune Wars, and built upon the riddle of petricite—a peculiar white stone that dampens magical energy. It is from here that the royal family has long seen to the defense of the outlying towns and villages, farmland, forests, and mountains rich with mineral resources.   However, following the sudden death of King Jarvan III, the other noble families have not yet approved the succession of his sole heir, young Prince Jarvan, to the throne.   Those who dwell beyond the heavily guarded borders are increasingly viewed with suspicion, and many former allies have begun to look elsewhere for protection, in these uncertain times. Some dare to whisper that the golden age of Demacia has passed, and unless its people are willing to adapt to a changing world—something many believe they are simply incapable of doing—the kingdom’s decline may be inevitable.   And all the petricite in the land will not protect Demacia from itself.

Religion

Religious rituals in Demacia have long faded out and the true understanding of their patron goddesses, Kayle and Morgana, have been lost in time. That being said, Demacia reveres the Twin Sisters as the bases for their virtues and their vice. Demacian imagery is heavily inspired by the winged goddesses, including that of the royal family's crest.

Kayle, The Righteous

Kayle represents the principals of blind justice and order. She exemplifies the necessity to punish the wicked without restraint as well as rewarding the righteous. In Kayle's eyes, there is no redemption or rehabilitation. A single sin renders a life forfeit and Kayle has brought many down with divine starfire.

Morgana, The Fallen

Morgana represents the principals of compassionate justice and forgiveness. She exemplifies the necessity to allow for redemption and rehabilitation. Morgana urges that no matter how lost someone becomes, they may always find their way back and always be given a choice of redemption.

Government

Demacia, for all intense and purposes, is a true hereditary monarchy with the ruling class being high noble families. Each noble family has a place on the king's council with each family having a tradition in their expertise, such as Crownguard being the military advisors

Culture

Demacia prides itself as a sanctuary from the destructive nature of magic. From its original founding, Demacia was an isolated pocket within Valoran that not even the powerful World Runes could penetrate due to the natural material known as Petricite. The white colored resource defines Demacian culture from its architecture down to the military ethos. This isolated mindset makes Demacia relatively smaller than its rival but it still holds a wide sphere of influence with its smaller independent neighbors.

Architecture

Demacian buildings are stylized with a slick and pure appearance. With the help of Petricite, Demacian structures are gleamingly white, noticeable for miles as a beacon of light. Demacian sculptures are famous for their skill in creating shapes and even statues into their buildings, allowing for impressive symbolism that is meant to inspire those who serve and live under the Demacian banner.

Military Honors

The highest honors that a Demacian can achieve is that of a prestigious soldier. Demacia's military is the most professional army in all of Runeterra. Where their small numbers are made up for their impressive prowess on the battlefield. So impressive, is Demacia's military, they were the first force to successfully stop and even pish back against Noxian expansion.

Magiphobic Society

Demacia oppresses and imprisons any and all sorcerers they can find, forcing them to drink liquidized Petricite in order to suppress their magical abilities. A butal order of mage hunters known as the Mageseekers are a secret police force tasks with discovering and arresting magic users within Demacia’s populace.
