Kvas (literally "leaven") is a fizzy bread drink that dates back to the Age of the Ancients.
Significance
It is said that Kvas was invented by a farmer whose bag of grain got wet. Rather than throw the grain out, the farmer decided to make flour out of the grain. Finding he was unable to make bread out of the grain, he instead invented malt by adding water to the grain and letting it ferment. And that is the story of the first Kvas.
This is a true story, for one was there who told me of it.
