The parting of the brothers
In the Orthobog religion, the world began in the year 1 of the Cherti Calendar. The myth of The Parting of the Brothers (Belabog and Chernabog) is the religion's origin story. It tells of how the two brothers disagreed in the creation of people, with Chernabog going against his brother's wishes and giving people free will.
Variations & Mutation
The Church of the White God argue that creating free will was a bad idea and that by corrupting people with it, Chernabog brought evil and chaos into Belabog's perfect world. They teach that people must strive for perfection, for only by striving can people truly be glorious.
The Church of the Black God disagree, saying that Chernabog was right to give people free will and that it was wrong of Belabog to get so bothered about it. They argue that the best way to honour the miracle of creation is to make sure to enjoy all the pleasures that the earth has to offer.
In Literature
How Dog became Man's Best Friend: This written account of the myth was collected by Alexander Afanasyev for his second volume of Collected Folktales. It focuses more on the relationship between man and the dog (that failed to protect the humans from Chernabog's free will) than the relationship between the brothers themselves.
