Mei was born into a rich family who had a lot of things, and she would get anything she wanted most of the time. But she found that she was being judged by her money alone whenever she met new people, so she cut herself off from her family and left to be on her own. Eventually she got a job working on a trading caravan which traveled through Faerous. She made an average person's wages. But whenever she stopped at the Casino town in Faerous she’d always stop and do a little gambling to earn some extra cash.
One trip through the town she met a fire genasi who looked to be in his 30’s and he was at least 10 times more drunk than anyone else at the Casino and she thought that he would probably get into trouble and need a bailout, so she kept an eye on him, and what he was doing.
So during one game, she noticed he had run out of money and he decided to bet his ranch. She knew that this would end badly so she joined the game and bet her life savings on the game and managed to win big. The man seemed very distraught about his ranch so she told him he could have it back if he quit drinking and so he agreed. Mei thought that was the end of it. But he decided to go out on a limb and bet his ranch in exchange for a date with her.
She knew that he was super drunk and that he’d probably lose, so she humored herself and she lost. During this game, she had caught him cheating, but she found him kind of charming and let him win anyways. So they planned a date for a few days before she was set to leave with her caravan and once she was able to spend time with him sober she fell in love. SO she didn’t bother to leave with the caravan, she instead left with the man and started a family with him. They had three children together: Ki-ahi, Zayne, and Lilah.
