Lake Ulüwerä
Lake Ulüwerä is a great lake in the Yamenawa highlands of the Serme Mountains.
It is believed, that in the ancient times, after the Great Slave Rebellion of Stonelords' Throne, the refugees found shelter in the shores of the lake, because the gods' presense in the land was so strong, that the Stone Giants dared not pursue them there. Thus they founded Wasäkawakal in that place.
Geography
The lake is surrounded by all sides the peaks of the mountains, that are only pierced by narrow mountains valleys. Wasäkawakal, the largest city of the region is located on the western shore of the lake. The lake has only one island, Áçämara, which houses the Altar of Horns, a cult site of Áfawarsal.Climate and Nature
Compared to the rest of the highlands where the temperature can fluctuate daily between hot and freezing, the lake's large amount of water create a pleasant micro-environment around it. The temperatures are evenly warm and humid almost all year round, making the region well suited for agriculture. Trees grow higher than in the rest of the mountains, and the green pastures attract mountain goats and other game. Large fish swim in the depths of the lake, and many more return to the lake for the rivers to breed.Associated Mythology
The lake is sacred to Áfawarsal the Weaver. In Ara mythology the lake is viewed as the womb of the world, and the island in its center is believed to be the place where Áfawarsal sat when she began to weave together the fabric of the world. This location is marked by the Altar of Horns, her most sacred cult site.It is believed, that in the ancient times, after the Great Slave Rebellion of Stonelords' Throne, the refugees found shelter in the shores of the lake, because the gods' presense in the land was so strong, that the Stone Giants dared not pursue them there.
